#CorporateRights #DestroyingOurWorld #RandomThoughts
Do you ever have one of those random thoughts that keeps you up at night? You know, the kind of thought that creeps into your mind when you least expect it and makes you question everything you once believed? Well, I recently had one of those thoughts, and it has been gnawing away at me ever since.
The concept that gave corporations rights similar to people is destroying our world. 🤯 In a society where profit reigns supreme, corporations have been granted the same rights as individuals, allowing them to act with impunity and put their own interests above all else. This has led to countless instances of environmental destruction, human rights abuses, and unchecked greed.
I can’t help but wonder, how did we let this happen? How did we allow corporations to gain so much power and influence over our lives, our communities, and our planet? It’s a chilling thought, but one that we cannot afford to ignore any longer.
Let’s take a closer look at how this concept is impacting our world and what we can do to combat it.
The Environmental Impact of Corporate Rights
Corporations, driven by a relentless pursuit of profit, have shown little regard for the health of our planet. From oil spills to deforestation to air and water pollution, the environmental footprint of corporate entities is staggering. 🌍 This unchecked exploitation of natural resources is leading us down a dangerous path towards environmental catastrophe.
Real-life Example:
– The Amazon Rainforest, often referred to as the “lungs of the earth,” is being destroyed at an alarming rate to make way for agriculture, logging, and mining operations. This destruction not only threatens the diverse ecosystem of the rainforest but also contributes to climate change on a global scale.
The Human Cost of Corporate Rights
In the pursuit of profit, corporations frequently trample on the rights and well-being of individuals. Sweatshops, child labor, and unsafe working conditions are just a few examples of the human rights abuses that have been perpetuated by corporate entities in the name of profit. 👩👧👦 This exploitation of vulnerable populations has real and devastating consequences for those affected.
Real-life Example:
– The Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh in 2013, which killed over 1,100 garment workers, was a tragic reminder of the human cost of corporate greed. The factory produced clothing for several major global brands, highlighting the responsibility that corporations have to ensure the safety and well-being of their workers.
What Can We Do?
As individuals, we have the power to hold corporations accountable for their actions and demand change. By supporting ethical and sustainable businesses, advocating for stronger regulations, and raising awareness about the impact of corporate rights, we can work towards a more just and equitable future for all. 🌟 It’s time to reclaim our power and stand up against the forces that are destroying our world.
In conclusion, the concept that gave corporations rights similar to people is a dangerous one that is wreaking havoc on our planet and our society. But by coming together and taking action, we can create a better world for future generations. It’s time to challenge the status quo and fight for a world where profit is not prioritized over people and the planet. #CorporateAccountability #Sustainability #EthicalBusinesses
Or letting corporations buy houses and letting corporations hide behind their “personage” to get away with accountability and allowing any semblance of direct advocacy to lawmakers
No that actually got us out the middle ages. Wtf are you on about?
The real problem is a lack of prison sentences for corporations.
They have the same “rights” as people but when a person kills another person they go to prison but corporations only pay a fine.
As to the US side of things, voters just aren’t as capable as their ancestors who made much of this campaign finance bribery illegal. They buy into parties leading them around but will not drive any rational policies themselves according to congress staffs. Then they whine it is too hard and must have been so much easier in <checks notes> the 1930s. Uh hunh. Right. Doomed we all are.
Corporations as an abstraction are one of the biggest gifts ever given to rich people, and one of the biggest fuck yous ever said to poor people. They have all of the rights of a real person and then some, without most of the downsides, like going to prison if you fuck up significantly enough. You can just declare bankruptcy and start a new corporation, supposedly with a “tarnished” reputation of having bankrupted a company, i.e. you’re a “bad businessman”.
Corporations and stocks are utterly bullshit and don’t benefit society and the common person in any way. They just enrich the already privileged.
…… what concept gives corporations rights similar to people??
Yes. Corporations have all of the benefits of personhood but none of the burdens
What an idiotic thing to say
Somebody must have just watched the new Some More News.
It is the single most destructive thing we have done (longterm). If you want to know how we went from the economic landscape of the 50’s to here, it’s corporations.
The real problem is that when corporations fight each other, they only see the surface without seeing the underlying problem that affects many employees.
Just like when countries go to war on the battlefield, they only talk about how much weapons they spend but don’t really mention the people.
Yup. Corporations have more rights and less accountability.
OP is right and also listens to [Some More News](https://youtu.be/j-lRuKBymfw?si=Im2R_BlWOdBQQ9Sk)
This thread is such an explosion of dumb. A corporation is just a number of people organized for a business purpose. Personhood is a legal fiction for functional purposes – for taxes and bank accounts for instance, but also limited liability – in other words if the business tanks its owners won’t go broke necessarily. Corporations have certain rights because they’re just groups of people – can you imagine saying a news or entertainment corporation loses free speech protections because they’re using a corporate form?
Nonsense.
Corporations have limited rights – not the same as people do – and that makes sense. For instance, if you sue a corporation, they have a right to an attorney and other due process rights. That makes perfect sense. You can’t just walk in and take their property (which is owned by real people anyway – the owners of the corporation).
For those dolts who are claiming corporations are immune from criminal law, that’s also nonsense. They are not. And sometimes the humans running the corporations can be found guilty of those crimes and put in prison. Duh.
Well people run it so it’s kinda needed
Corporations are very much destroying the world. Ot really sucks to see.
I work in the construction industry, but have a client who is a super rich guy who worked for a senator. We were talking one day, years ago, and he straight up said, “Nothing in America is going to get better until Citizens United is overturned.”
So, that’s the math of it.
I mean, the people let them get away with shit, so you can’t exactly blame the corporations for trying.
Question how would you hold corporation legally responsible without them having personhood????
