It’s kind of weird, but I enjoyed most of it.
It’s good. Story is crazy but the game was real fun to me. Helps to turn up the difficulty a little if you’re taking it too easy.
I didn’t play it but my brother did. I watched a streamer go through it. My opinion is “interesting but weird”. Aggressively so.
General opinion when it came out and everyone was talking about it were heavily divided. If you liked it you REALLY liked it, one of the best games you ever played. If you didn’t then it was the worst most pointless game you’d ever seen.
Very little middle ground that I saw.
The important thing is “Do YOU like it?”
It opens up A TON after 10ish hours. Took me a few attempts but the story is great and it becomes a good bit less trudgy after that time. Follow through.
I feel like it’s a very accurate depiction of a long ass fever dream 😄
Try killing one of the big monsters with just piss, it will make it feel like a dark souls game.
You CAN kill them with your piss.
All that monster energy, makes it lethal.
The game becomes more enjoyable as it goes on. For me it starts slow but as you move forward in the story it opens up more in terms of gameplay. I actually found it kinda scary (but I am a massive scaredy-cat)
I like the early game but there is no denying that it’s got a lot of stuff backloadeded into the end of the game.
The story is odd, I didn’t really get much of the nuance to it and the freaky deaky stuff that happens is mostly beyond me, but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the general story beats.
It’s crazy to play the game today since it came out some time before covid was a thing.
It’s a hit or miss. I thought I wouldn’t like it but absolutely loved it. It’s the one game I can’t recommend cos you never know until you try it
Personally I didn’t enjoy all the walking so gave up pretty quick. Watched a video on the story instead. Seems interesting, just not a fan of hours of walking for a little bit of story in return. Wasn’t for me
I like it! But it can get repetitive at times and it’s ok to take breaks.
I enjoy planning my routes and what gear I bring.
There was a part I had to use a guide on pretty early. Maybe I wasn’t paying attention to what they told me to do or I was just stupid but I couldn’t figure it out 🤷🏻♂️ loved it though
i enjoyed it. main narrative is kojima so it’s a touch blunt. spent a huge chunk of time making optimized paths for delivery runs and completing the main roads
Just wanted to finish and know the story. Then i connected my game to the internet, suddenly i just wanted to help everyone connect. Wierd, i wanted to hate the game but i liked it.
It’s a very polarizing game for a reason. You’ll find all the types of answers to your question.
I enjoyed the postman pat simulator, disliked the monsters and found the story insane.
But I like it.
why spoil the fun and get any influence what people think. junk finish it.
A ton of people love it… damned if I can figure out why.
Its honestly a great game, the core loop of delivering stuff is bizarrely fun.
The overall story is good, bordering on great at times but also now and then puts its pants on its head, sticks bugs up its nose and makes chicken noises (you will come to see that this is 100% true).
Honestly its a real gem.
I absolutely adore Death Stranding. It takes a little while to get going but once it does it’s a hell of a ride. It’s an absolute mind melter but the way the story is told is so well done. I love how combat takes a huge step back in this one too, I love the simplicity of hearing Sam’s boots as we trudge across some beautiful ravine.
Oh yeah, and always carry spare boots.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I mocked the _shit_ out of the game back in the day but after giving it a shot via Game Pass last year(ish) I _LOVE_ the game.
There’s just something about the animations, how your feet adjust to surfaces if they’re rocky/wet/etc, and just finding safe and efficient ways to deliver cargo makes my brain “tingle” for lack of a better term.
I had some fun with it, but never finished it. I got bored. I get why some people loved it, but I also get why some people hated it. It’s a game you will have to just play it for a while and find out for yourself.
I absolutely loved this game. It has a bit of a slow start but I promise everything pays off. It was one of the most rewarding experiences in gaming I’ve ever had.
That said, it’s worth asking if you’re playing the Directors Cut or the OG version
LOVED this game!!! Don’t be put off on how frustrating it can be in the beginning. It’s supposed to be this way, you will understand it all later as you move through the game. I really feel sorry for those that gave up too quickly on DS because they really missed out on an amazing experience (again, you don’t see it yet but you will). I actually cried when I finished it 100%, and I can’t say that about too many games I’ve played in my 40+ years of gaming. The entire thing is a puzzle. The game changes in very unusual ways. Yes, you will still be a UPS delivery person but the story and events and worlds open up into a really unique style (can’t say anymore because I don’t want to give anything away -it blows the mind). Keep at it, and deliver those packages in the most efficient way. I can’t wait for DS2 to come out. Those of us that completed the game know how awesome the experience was and are looking forward to the sequel. Enjoy!!
Edit: It will get MUCH easier and fun after a bit. The beginning struggle is real but don’t give up.
I tried playing this game for about 2 hours. Correction… I sat and watched this game for 2 hours with virtually no game play, then I uninstalled.
I got this game for free and still overpaid.
You made a good choice for your first Strand-type game.
I loved it. However, I’m not sure I want a sequel. Especially so soon. At least Kojima is doing OD, which I am extremely excited about.
This game is a goddamn abomination… BUT, if you enjoy the traversal gimmicks, maybe you can have fun. Basically a truck simulator, but you drive a human instead
I got to the same part as you and thought it was boring as hell. Looked it up online and saw that it should get good in another 8 hours. I dropped it and won’t be picking it up again
great game, made me cry at the end. played the high sea version, with no help, rebuild everything myself
It’s a great game and is very atmospheric. It’s pretty different though, and some have a hard time getting into it because it’s not as action packed as most other games. It’s absolutely worth playing through.
Keep on keeping on!
It’s… I went in blind only seeing the trailer. The what the fuck factor is pretty high. Gorgeous game. Takes a bit to open up, you’ll be in that nice green valley for a while but when it does it’s great. There’s one point that it starts to drag, I remember it being brown and near a lake. Running around there was a pain in the butt.
Kojima is fucking unhinged. But also, Ludons by Bring Me the Horizon is an absolute banger.
Oh and the online functions are pretty cool.
The game got a lot of flack when it first came out…But legitimately one of my favorite games to come out in a long long while. You are in for a wild ride.
It’s an amazing game. Such a unique style too.
And yes. Not knowing Bout anything that happens in the story is normal.
I think calling it a game is a bit narrow. While it IS a game, it’s more like a game as art from a guy who loves 80’s movies and this is his first project with low need to be commercially viable or answer to a studio. It feels VERY different and some people love it and some people hate it. For me personally, kojima production games are probably the only game studio I’m down to buy whatever they make without knowing anything about the game.
I fucking loved this game. It’s weird AF, and definitely not a game for everyone, but it was the first time in probably over a decade where I legitimately thought “wow, I’ve never played anything like this before,” and that alone deserves to be celebrated. Just being able to walk around a world that was that unique was enjoyable enough to make it worth it for me.
Have fun, take your time, explore.
Plan your trips on the map BEFORE you go.
Do the side quests.
Game is wildly different when you play online.
Have fun delivering pizza!
It’s my favorite game ever made. That said… I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. I always tell people to give it like 5-10 hours, if you don’t like it by then… it’s not a game for you.
Secret Stone?
Still playing it but have like 30-40 hours in it? I like building roads and doing the courier missions too much and haven’t been rushing the story.
It’s very weird and haven’t played anything like it, which I like. Feels like an entirely unique game where you can’t point to something else and be like “oh it’s like this game.”
I made it to Edge Knot City and is still boring, should I give it another go? When I’m trapped with the whales is just blowing up my blood, until survival or death. Doesn’t seem to be another way out.
The best game of 2019 and one of the best games of the last decade. Absolute masterpiece. FYI, you can drive drive vehicles almost anywhere if you are persistent enough.
It starts slow. I gave up on it the first time around with about 5 hours played.
Restarted a year later I think it’s a masterpiece.
If you’re unsure, try to last until you get the bolo-gun, that’s when I started to love the game.
It’s a fantastic game, but the first few hours can be a bit of a slog.
Give it time, one of the best games I’ve ever played
To me the story was absolutely Kojima shlock (and I’m a huge Kojima fan) but the experience was absolutely amazing. Traveling huge distances and exploring/conquering beautiful landscapes, then chilling at home base listening to that awesome music and reading emails.
It’s an acquired taste though and you gotta be in the mood for it. I liken it to the film 2001 A Space Odyssey. Not your typical movie/game but a brilliant experience.
It’s an amazing game, so unique. The more introspective and philosophical you are, the more you’ll see the metaphors that make up the story. Hideo Kojima is a masterful storyteller.
