If you’re feeling frustrated about finding a job, you’re not alone. The job market can often feel like a daunting maze, especially for recent graduates like yourself (F22 looking for jobs in communications/marketing). But fear not, there are practical solutions to help you navigate this challenging landscape and land your dream job.
## The Struggle is Real 😔
It’s true that networking is crucial in today’s job market. However, it can be daunting to figure out how to effectively network into a job, especially at your level as a post-grad seeking entry-level positions. The pressure to secure a job can lead to considering less desirable options, like taking a job in the service industry or starting your own venture out of frustration.
Moreover, the salary expectations of many companies may not align with the cost of living in cities like NYC, making it even more difficult for young professionals to find suitable opportunities. The long interview processes for potential jobs can also be time-consuming and exhausting.
## Stay Savvy in the Job Market 💼
1. **Leverage Online Platforms**: Utilize job search platforms and professional networking sites like LinkedIn to connect with potential employers and showcase your skills and experience.
2. **Attend Networking Events**: Attend industry events, seminars, and workshops to expand your professional network and learn about job openings.
3. **Internships and Freelancing**: Consider gaining experience through internships or freelance projects to enhance your portfolio and increase your chances of landing a full-time job.
4. **Skill Development**: Stay updated on industry trends and continuously work on improving your skills through online courses and certifications.
5. **Personal Branding**: Create a compelling personal brand by optimizing your resume, cover letter, and online profiles to attract recruiters and stand out from the competition.

Communication, marketting, IT are hurting bad now
Hey old guy here 48m.
The first job is by far the HARDEST TO LAND. Also the pay generally sux and they treat you like DOG SHIT. I was in IT and started in 1999. Went through 6 jobs because the company went bankrupt at about 6 months…. 6 times. I thought I was a literal bad luck.
BUT I had a good partner who kept dusting me off and telling me I could do it. Finally landed a great job BY ACCIDENT while starting an IV in National Guard training. Next job I got by going to an interview I WAS 100% not qualified for, turns out they posted the WRONG JOB and I was totally qualified for the real job. Also, it was at your very age I joined the National Guard to network and pay off school, got my bachelors paid and 2 masters out of it and became a side career for 22 years which built a monster network of people through it.
Point being sometimes you will trip into things, life is not a straight line and there is no easy or surefire way to success. As someone who has been laid off closing on 10 times I have been up, down and sideways in my life, but never fired. Just do what you can, work hard, be a good person and jump when opportunity knocks. Everything else is CHANCE.
I don’t mean any hate, but you want to get a job in communication and marketing. I do not know if you are any good or not. But if you are good, then you should view yourself as the product and market the s*** out of it. Use all your communication and marketing skills to let the world know about you and what you can do, and use that to sell yourself into a job.
I would be very hesitant to hire a marketing person who could not market themselves very well.

What really changed things for me was getting an internship. I was lucky that after my internship ended I was hired on at that same company.
It was horrible pay, but I worked hard for a year, got a promotion, and, while still employed, started my job search again. This time, with better results.
