Is it a red flag if a marketing company only has 3 employees and a short history? Looking for advice on next steps after a confusing interview experience. #MarketingCompany #Employment #JobInterview #SEOstrategies #ContentWriting #CompanySize #JobSearch
Follow your gut.
There have been a few red flags here: not being transparent upfront about how small the company is, the job description not being what they asked for verbally (they might’ve posted a more basic role to see if they could snag someone with lower standards.)
And most importantly you mentioned that you wanted stability — you definitely won’t get that here, at such a small company without any structure.
If you’re financially able, I’d suggest withdrawing and looking for something better.
Ask if they have freelancers, 1099, on-call peeps they farm work out to..
Depending on the type of projects, clients and level of workload they have…
cost-wise it is easier to use ‘on-demand’ talent rather than pay full-time staff and have it just sit around.
I’ve worked at places where I was the ONLY employee, and at 20-table restaurants where I was one of two rotating waitresses (and had to wash dishes too), I’ve been the entire marketing team for midsize companies— it all depends on what YOU want. I prefer this structure because I get to do a lot of different things, but I am also chronically underpaid and have done a lot that is normally done by people who have gotten degrees for it. I like the variety, often I find that they don’t care if I’m a few minutes late or leave a little early. The work is usually really engaging because I’m so busy. I have job security because finding someone who can do all of the tasks needed instead of hiring 3 is hard. But I do NOT have financial stability. The reasons I see people leave are that the dynamics are too personal, people move onto big roles using their new crazy experiences, people get burnt out, or they prefer more structure and an actual HR department and end up not showing up for their second week.
I didn’t even know the Michael Scott Paper Company was hiring.
I know someone hired as employee number one to two brothers ceo and cfo. He’s now svp eng to a department of 80
How have you got to second interview stage without having done any of your own research on the company you’re applying for? Seems like a pretty basic oversight.
Depends on the people and the actual reality.
I got am offer from what was supposed to be a 20 person company.
Found out it was a 2 person company. And they were delusional completely on verge of mental disorder. Ceo and coo lol.
The normal ones usually think I’m overqualified. Found out this delusional types don’t. Got 3 offers like this which turned out to be rubbish.
I accepted them all since I’m unemployed, but should be extremely careful regarding contracts pay etc.
