#NeighborIssues #SecurityCamera #NoiseComplaints
Hey neighbors! 👋 Have you ever had to deal with a situation where your neighbor’s security camera is causing a disturbance? Our neighbor has a camera located right outside our bedroom window that constantly shouts “Hi, you’re being recorded”. 📹😬
Here are some of the past issues we’ve had to address with our neighbor:
– Running a generator and air compressor starting at 5am 🕔
– Burning leaves and cardboard for her business causing ash on our property 🍂🔥
– Dogs barking non-stop into the early morning hours 🐶🌙
Now, the loud shouts from the security camera are disturbing our sleep and peace. We’ve tried talking to her about it, but she’s refusing to do anything to address the noise issue, claiming she can’t hear it from her house.
We’re considering calling the police, especially during curfew hours, but we’re unsure about what actions can be taken. Do you have any experience with a similar situation? Any advice on dealing with noisy neighbors or legal options we could explore? 🤔
Let’s share our insights and help each other out! Maybe there’s a solution we haven’t considered yet. Thank you for your input! 🙏
Is the car violating a local noise ordinance? It may be. If so, then report that.
You need to read up on the local noise ordinances and make a video that proves the camera is louder than the maximum allowed dB level for that time period. The police are unlikely to do anything without this evidence, and she may not be breaking the law at all. Of course if you find the annoying voice is not breaking the law, there would be nothing stopping you from say playing baby shark all night at the same level and pointed towards her window.
At least temporarily so you can get some sleep and figure out your local ordinances, an infrared spotlight (IR Illuminator) will blind the camera at night time so it stops going off constantly and it will not damage the camera. It won’t be visible to you or your neighbor, just their night vision camera – just make sure it points directly at the camera.
OP I read you’re not a tit for tat type of person, which is a great mentality for life, but realize you live next to an asshole who doesn’t care about your well being or being a good neighbor.
This type of person isn’t going to stop or adjust their behavior until someone really escalates beyond the normal and neighborly communication you’ve ALREADY delivered.
You need to record and document at least a few nights of all this crap: the camera voice, the compressor, the generator, the dogs…all of it. You need to be able to demonstrate with evidence that this person pays no heed to noise ordinances or being neighborly. Then report them, they’ve been warned, reporting them is the right thing.
Even if you’re conflicted, remember this is because you’re a normal good person, your noisy neighbor is not. And be assured there will be other neighbors who are bothered as well, you’re standing up for all of you.
Best of luck, I hope that soon you can rest well with the lack of noise and the knowledge you did the right thing.
Get a white noise machine on Ali or if you have Alexa ask her to play it. It is a good choice to cancel sounds that are not very loud.
A cease and desist letter from a lawyer might be enough to scare her into compliance without actually reporting her.
Animal services can require owners to have their dogs inside during certain hours. Had a neighbor in Los Angeles that would leave the dog out all nite barking, the city imposed the rules. I’m sorry you live next to such an ass.
I would also suggest you explore if she’s in breach of the zoning/licensing regulations from running a commercial business in a residential neighbourhood.
