#WorkplaceIssues #DoctorNoteControversy #EmployeeRights
Hey everyone! 🌟 So, I had quite the experience recently when I had to call out sick due to feeling absolutely terrible and my boss is now refusing to accept my doctor’s note. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Can employers really do that? Here’s what went down:
– Was sent home after being sick at work, no mention of needing a doctor’s note.
– Offered to tough it out and work, but was told to stay home.
– Got a doctor’s note for the days I missed, but boss is saying it’s invalid.
Any insights on this situation? Any advice on how to handle this? I believe that as employees, we have rights and deserve to be treated fairly when we are genuinely sick. Let’s discuss and help each other out! 🤔💼📝 #EmploymentRights #HealthComesFirst #FairTreatment
What country are you based in?
You can refer them to the FDA which suggests no one with any symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea work in food service. In fact this may be a law although I’m no lawyer so I could just be wrong about the law however I know most places have polices against it in food service. CDC also sites working sick as a very large part of outbreaks of stomach bugs. They need to find a nice rubber wiener to sit on and think about it for a bit. Everywhere in food service I have worked absolutely does not want someone spewing to be in the building. Just feel better and don’t worry about them. There’s always another food service job which would probably be an improvement over working with morons
First of all, you’re an AH for offering to work sick, especially if you work in food services. You should have left at the first sign and not returned until you were better. What gives you the right to be out in public, infecting people who may be immunocompromised, have small children or elderly, or just plain need to go to go about their business without you spewing germs all over them?
Second, you unduly complicated this by offering / insisting on a doctor’s note and pushing the issue when it wasn’t asked. “Tough it out” is ludicrous, especially in food services; if you say you can do that, it raises the suspicion that you weren’t really sick. You have either irritated your boss or somehow caused the issue to be elevated and caused problems for them. I suspect that your boss said it was fine, but their boss then got irritated and said they should have taken your offer and had you come it. They didn’t ask for it, you shouldn’t have brought it up again. If it is a company policy to get a doctor’s note you should have confirmed in writing that they didn’t need it. Elevate this to HR if necessary.
If they threaten to fire you over this, tell them that’s fine, you’ll just go to the County health department and show how they are requiring people to work sick.
But recognize that you, at least in part, created this problem.
I’d start looking for a new job. Most restaurants are always looking for reliable help. Try to get a dollar more per hour while you are at it
Vomiting and diarrhea you don’t “tough out”, especially when you work with food. That’s disgusting and not fair to the customers and/ or coworkers.
Vomit on the main kitchen floor then leave. You need a better workplace
Take the sick note an either shove down your bosses throut or bend him over and shove it up his ass dealers choice
I wonder if you’re not misunderstanding. They may simply want no record of you being sick because that could cause them health safety problems. They told you to go home. They didn’t ask for a note. Now they’re reiterating that they don’t want a note. Why do you think they’re going to fire you for not coming to work?
Most health departments have VERY CLEAR guidelines for food service work and diarrhea/vomiting. Solid chance your employer is violating these local rules/laws.
I would email it in or text a photo of it. They got it regardless of if they want to “accept” it. I always keep the original for my files and send in a photo.
Remind your boss THEY sent you home yesterday.
