Hey everyone! So my manager recently asked us to donate money for bottled water during this heat wave we’re experiencing. 🌞 I’m a bit confused because I thought it’s the employer’s responsibility to provide water for employees, especially when we have water filling stations available. 🚰
I’m also hesitant because some of us may not be able to afford extra expenses on top of already high living costs. 💸 Plus, I’m not a fan of supporting bottled water for environmental reasons. 🌍
So, I’m wondering if this is legal or if I should address this issue with management. I saw a coworker stress out about buying water after work hours, and it just doesn’t sit right with me. 🤔
Possible solutions:
– Look into Pennsylvania labor laws regarding employer-provided amenities. 📚
– Discuss concerns with HR or higher management in a professional manner. 💼
– Suggest alternative solutions like reusable water bottles or filtered water options. 💧
What do you think? Have you experienced something similar in your workplace? Let’s discuss! 💬 #WaterDonation #EmployeeWellbeing
As far as I understand it he can certainly *ask*. But any real consequences for failing to do so would be illegal.
Scummy behavior though. Asking employees to cover the cost of doing business.
That’s not your responsibility. They need to provide access to water for those workers. And no you don’t have to “chip in” just remind them that it’s their responsibility and if they throw a shit fit just report it to OSHA and move on.
They can “request” all they want. They can’t mandate it. Those assholes should be providing it if it is that necessary for hydration and worker safety.
Next time just ask what’s wrong with the water they have available to them already?
How fucked is America if tap water is undrinkable?
Not sure the state, but CA has extra laws surrounding heat illness prevention and what employers are required to provide
