#LegalAdviceNeeded #WorkplaceRights #WashingtonState #TruckDriverLife
Hey there, Reddit fam! 👋 So, I’ve been sharing my experiences as a truck driver in this sub, and I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock (pun intended). I’m starting to have some serious concerns about the legality of my current work situation.
Here’s the deal: I haul milk from farms, and my company operates based on air miles rather than adhering to the usual truck driver regulations like the 14hr/16hr/34 hr reset rule. I haven’t been getting any breaks, and to make matters worse, I’m not even getting paid for them! 😫
Recently, things have taken a turn for the worse. I’ve been informed that I no longer get weekends, I’m being forced to train someone else, and there’s no option for me to take time off because there’s no one to cover my shift. 😔 This relentless schedule has started to impact my health and well-being.
So, here’s my burning question: Is this legal? I’m based in Washington state, so if anyone has any insights or advice on what steps I can take, I’d really appreciate it. 🙏
Possible Solutions:
– Reach out to the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries for guidance
– Consider consulting with a legal professional specializing in workers’ rights
– Keep detailed records of your work hours and any violations of labor laws for documentation
Thanks in advance for your help, Reddit! Let’s navigate this rocky road together. 🚚💼
I don’t know much, but take a good look at this.
I don’t see exemptions to the overtime rules other than salaried employees.

Seems like you need a consultation with a local labor attorney.
Regardless of the legality, please look for another job. This is crazy unethical for them to do and you deserve better
I can’t believe this is legal. Besides screwing you out of mileage pay (air miles are less than road miles). They’re ignoring drive times, mandatory breaks and safety checks too?
Report them and gtfo. This is a lawsuit and accident waiting to happen.
This sounds shitty but legal. I don’t think this’ll be a situation you can make better by any means. Just keep putting out applications and following up on them. Start putting forth minimum effort where possible at work, cuz fuck em.
Someone suggested rolloff/dump truck work, watch out for severely sketchy equipment there.
Look into construction jobs, you’ll get some equipment operating experience while you’re at it too. Fedex Ground subcontractors are frequently hiring. Those runs are usually nights but you’re home everyday and they require elogs. I’m currently a tow truck driver and I’m loving it.
Who do you work for ?
You said you work 180hours every two weeks ???
I did the exact same job and in 2018 I got the flu. Couldn’t get the time off to see a doctor so I pushed through living on DayQuil and redbull until I had a heart attack on day 9 from the stress on my body. Bear in mind at the time I was 38m and was in the greatest physical fitness of my life so don’t make my mistake and get hurt over a job that doesn’t value your health
