Hey everyone! ๐ Have you ever found yourself giving your all at work for years, only to feel unseen and unappreciated? ๐ค That’s exactly where I was at until recently. After years of pushing myself to the limit and getting nowhere, I decided to take a step back and prioritize my own well-being. And you know what? Nobody even noticed! ๐
Here are some thoughts I’d love to discuss with you all:
– Is it worth sacrificing our mental and physical health for a job that doesn’t appreciate us?
– How can we find a better work-life balance without jeopardizing our career growth?
– What are some strategies for setting boundaries at work and protecting our own well-being?
I’ve found that by focusing on doing the bare minimum and not overextending myself, I’ve actually felt more fulfilled and less stressed. It’s like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders! ๐
Let’s chat about how we can prioritize ourselves while still achieving success in the workplace. Your thoughts and experiences are so valuable! ๐ฌ #SelfCare #ValueYourself #EmployeeWellness
Find an employer who values your effort.
Good for you. You sound happier. Not everyone gets to move up for one reason or another and thatโs okay – the important thing is recognizing if the opportunity is there or not and seeing if that aligns with your goals or adjusting your behavior accordingly.
Thereโs times to lay back in a career and thereโs times to grind. Donโt constantly run yourself ragged for an employer that literally could not care less about you, unless you can clearly see the reward.
You sound like you have a strong work ethic. If your job sucks it out of you find something else. A good work ethic is too valuable to give up on.
Protect yourself first. Don’t let them get used to you being a hero to save each because you will be taken for granted.
This is a tough, bitter lesson but the flip side is you realized you deserved better. Good luck.
I am in this spot also. It’s hard mentally to not be working hard towards something but if there’s no next role or pay increase to work towards, and bonuses being cut and teams not being backfilled, I’m not going to be putting my hand up to take on more anymore. Definitely feel guilty but also apathetic to it all
It means no one really cared to begin with.
That however is an advantage if you know how to work it to your advantage
my employer instituted a rating system, and I got the rare โexceeds expectations.โ But I didnโt get anything for it.
I got the union-negotiated raise, and nothing else.
Not *even* a $10 Starbucks card. Or a company mug.

Cool story
The employer-employee relationship is a business transaction. Your effort is rewarded through compensation and advancement. If they are not willing to uphold their end of the deal, you have no reason to continue to uphold yours.
I’m of a mind where management knows where we’re headed/where they’re sending us within our first 6 months on a job, maybe sooner. That management says ‘this one is blue chip, this one is trash I’ll fire them eventually, and this one is ok, nothing special, not management material but consistent enough to pitch in’ relatively early…and that once they make up their mind, almost nothing can change it.
It sounds like management made up their mind on you a long, long time ago and you tried to change it, but couldn’t (very very few people can).
Some people are fine with being rank and file, it’s often a safe place to be. What do you want?
You work, for you.
You don’t work for extra credit, there is no system of rewards for great effort put forth.
Just a normal raise in most cases.
So you work to your standards,,, if your driven to succeed and push hard, that’s just your personality.
It’s not the company’s responsibility or fault if you expected something to different
You can’t change your core self, like I said, if your a hard charger, you always will be
It’s your base nature.
You may try and drift away from it for awhile, but you will always return to yourself
