Feeling Lost in the Coding Maze?
Hey there, fellow aspiring coder! If you’ve been grinding away at learning JavaScript for the past 4 months but still feel like you’re stuck in the dark, you’re not alone. It’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed and confused when diving into the world of coding, especially as a high school student with big dreams of pursuing cybersecurity.
Why Am I Struggling?
It’s essential to understand that learning a new programming language takes time, patience, and persistence. Instead of beating yourself up for not grasping everything right away, it’s crucial to recognize that the learning process is a journey, not a destination. In the vast sea of coding languages and concepts, it’s easy to feel lost and unsure of your capabilities.
Practical Tips to Overcome Coding Confusion
- Break It Down: Instead of trying to tackle complex projects right off the bat, break down the language into smaller, manageable chunks. Focus on mastering the basics before diving into more advanced topics.
- Practice, Practice, Practice: The key to mastering any programming language is consistent practice. Set aside dedicated time each day to code, solve problems, and experiment with different projects.
- Seek Help: Don’t hesitate to reach out to online communities, forums, or mentors for guidance and support. Asking questions and seeking clarification can help you gain a deeper understanding of JavaScript.
- Learn by Doing: Instead of relying solely on tutorials and hints, challenge yourself to build your own projects from scratch. By applying your knowledge in real-world scenarios, you’ll solidify your understanding of the language.
Remember, it’s okay to feel lost and confused at times—it’s all part of the learning process. Stay motivated, stay curious, and never give up on your coding journey. You’ve got this! 💪🚀
Hope these tips help you navigate the coding maze and build a strong foundation in JavaScript. Keep pushing yourself, stay curious, and don’t forget to celebrate your small wins along the way. You’re on the right path to achieving your cybersecurity dreams! ✨
Good luck on your coding adventures, and remember that every coding challenge you face is an opportunity to grow and learn. Keep pushing forward, and soon enough, you’ll look back and realize just how far you’ve come. Happy coding!

Happy coding, and may your programming adventures be filled with exciting challenges and rewarding breakthroughs. See you on the coding battlefield! 💻🔥
Keep going. It all starts to fall into place. But you gotta keep going.
Sometimes it takes the right resource to explain it the way you need it. Keep searching and it will work out
Good for you for trying to learn early and thinking ahead towards the degree and career you want to pursue. In that sense, you’re way ahead of a lot of people your age.
Don’t stress too much about how long it takes. Learning to program can feel like long epochs of darkness and confusion broken up by a series of eureka type moments in which concepts start to click for you.
Codecademy is cool, thats where I started. At your stage it’s not a bad idea to code along to some simple app tutorials on YouTube. Also the easy or beginner level challenges on leetcode, codeninja, or the like, can actually be pretty helpful at this stage. Don’t be afraid to open documentation or cheat while doing the challenges. It’s about seeing and learning how to approach small problems and specific data types.
You should watch some videos about software design and modularization. It’ll help a lot
Sophomore and graduating next year? Congrats on the early graduation! I recommend starting with learning the CS fundamental concepts before jumping into a code academy course.

I highly recommend:

Edit: Listen to the first 4 minute intro, you will feel more at ease. CS concepts is laying a strong foundation for any language. This will help with the practical exercises in your JS course but also give you a solid edge. Keep up the great work!.
2 years for me. Still don’t understand how to cout something. Sarcasm/
Maybe JS is not the best language to start with…. like python there are too many different shortcuts, inline syntaxes and so on.
I would recommend to use sololearn for a few days and do the C/C++ beginner courses. Maybe it’s getting a bit clearer.
But stick to it! It will become clear when you start your own projects!
I started learning a simpler language (python) and not understanding what is going on at the very begining I was learning matrices , loops, if statements it is very dry and difficult to sit through but once u start doing projects and case studies u would appreciate why you have gotten your foundations done up it would all make sense at the end. If you get too bored I suggest u go right to the end and look at real life examples/ projects of what you want to do then maybe you would have a better idea of what concepts u want to reinforce to get there
> learn JavaScript on codecademy
There is part of the problem. Wrong resource.
Try the classics:
+ FreeCodeCamp
+ The Odin Project
4 months is a fairly short time learning programming. Also, JS alone will not cut it. You will need HTML and CSS at the bare minimum along.
It’s very normal brother, just keep going don’t leave in the middle. With the Time it gets better. Every person has their own limits and learning capabilities. For someone it may be a year or more whereas someone learns the same thing in 6 months.
all i can say is keep going.i didn’t even have the basics before entering uni cause i took science stream in college. i mean all i did to get good at coding was to ask around my lecturers and watch youtube videos, asking seniors advice on how to tackle on projects.you can do this!!!
What?? You don’t learn something huge in a short amount of time AND it’s demotivating???
Oh boy. Just wait until you’ve been learning to code for 5 years.
Anyone who says they know what they are doing, as in they know all they need to know about programming, is someone you don’t want to be around or work with. This is a constant learning experience. There are always ways to learn something new or make something better or more efficient.
4 months is a very short time for learning anything, it’s normal to not really understand. Try to start building simple projects and the more you do this you’ll get a grasp on things. Maybe after a year or year and a half you’ll feel more comfortable with coding. And even 1 year is quite a short time for learning to code.
Screw JavaScript, I’ve never learned it but then again I don’t do web dev. Start with Python. Python is an object oriented language. Understand the philosophy of object oriented programming. It has data structures and other good stuff. JavaScript is bs language to provide functionality on websites.
