#RoombaInPool #LMAO #MomStories 😂
Have you ever had a moment when you just couldn’t contain your laughter, even in situations where you probably should? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me when my mom called me to share the hilarious (but not so funny to her) story of her Roomba taking an unexpected dive into the pool. 🏊♀️
Here’s a little background: my mom is a snowbird, which means she spends her winters in Florida. And during one of our regular phone calls, she excitedly begins recounting a recent cleaning mishap. Let me tell you, her storytelling skills can take a twisty turn, but this particular tale had me in absolute stitches.
The Setup:
When my mom mentioned that her Roomba had gone missing, my initial reaction was one of confusion. After all, how could a Roomba just disappear? But then she dropped the bombshell – it had fallen into the pool. Cue my uncontrollable laughter. 🤣
The Fallout:
For my mom, this was no laughing matter. She was understandably upset about the fate of her $400 Roomba. But me? I was doubled over, struggling to catch my breath between fits of laughter. I mean, the mental image of a Roomba trying to “swim” with its little brushes still going was just too much to handle.
The Blame Game:
As my mom lamented the lack of a built-in safety feature for water incidents, I couldn’t help but imagine a Roomba outfitted with floatation bags or some sort of aquatic escape plan. I’m not sure if my suggested upgrades would ever make it to the market, but it did make for some great comedic material in the moment!
So, who’s to blame? Clearly, it’s the Roomba for its lack of pool survival skills, right? Well, mom wasn’t so sure about that. But one thing was certain – my Easter dinner invitation might be in jeopardy after this whole debacle.
In all seriousness, this whole scenario got me thinking about the importance of finding humor in unexpected situations. While my mom may not have found it funny at the time, it’s moments like these that become cherished memories and great stories to tell. And hey, if nothing else, it reminded me to be grateful for the ability to see the humor in life’s little mishaps.
So, what can we learn from my mom’s Roomba mishap? Let’s dive into a few key takeaways:
1. Embrace the Unpredictable: Life is full of surprises, and sometimes, those surprises include household appliances taking an impromptu swim. Embracing the unexpected can not only lighten the mood but also remind us to roll with the punches.
2. Laughter is the Best Medicine: There’s a reason why they say laughter is contagious. Finding humor in even the most mundane situations can help alleviate stress, improve mood, and forge a stronger connection with those around us.
3. Cherish the Moments: In the grand scheme of things, a soggy Roomba might not seem all that significant. But it’s these seemingly trivial moments that end up making the best stories and memories in the long run.
In conclusion, the tale of the Roomba in the pool may have left a void in my mom’s cleaning routine, but it certainly filled our hearts with laughter. And let’s face it – laughter is the best sound in the world, even if it gets you uninvited to Easter dinner.
So, if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, just remember this story and allow yourself to find the humor in life’s little mishaps. And who knows, maybe your laughter will be infectious enough to cheer up a distraught Roomba owner too. 🤷♂️

> “It’s not funny! That’s a $400 machine”
Literally **_everything_** robotic vacuum cleaners do is funny.
NTA, because that’s fucking funny.
New warning coming on the packaging: “Warning, Roombas are not equipped with flotation devices.”
NTA let her be angry and send a condolences note for the dead rumba
Edit: Buy a new rumba for Easter saying it has been resurrected its name Jesus it’s seen the light.
**NTA** OP, first of all, the situation IS hilarious. Secondly, this is the risk people have when keeping non-native species in their house. What if it hadn’t fallen into the pool and just went around *vacuuming* things?! What if it outcompeted the native streetsweepers?
You can’t just let that thing out into the ecosystem and not expect SOME kind of consequences!
NTA. Poor Roomba was thinking it was free from its dreary life of unpaid labor cleaning up after people…and splat. Oh, the humanity!
This is absolutely hilarious! I can just see it doggedly (see what I did there?) swimming towards the ladder and wondering what kind of appendage is needed to get up it!
Your mom sounds a lot like mine. Caution, we become more like them every day as we age!
Thanks for the laugh. And NTA
NAH
400 dollars, and the little bastard doesn’t have sensors to prevent it from hurling itself into watery doom? I’d be pissed too, but not at you for laughing. It’s funny.
That said, you should go ahead and validate her anger and upset, too. There’s no need to be a total jerk.
OMG – I am about to replace my Roomba and you have given me such fantastic ideas of how to give my current buddy a proper funeral! WATER BURIAL!!! I just don’t know whether to send him directly in as I play taps, or if I should make some little floatation devices to get it him the middle of the pool with sparklers to say goodbye! Tell your mother that you have inspired others! She should be proud!
NTA – Your mom will most likely also find it funny in time and I’m sure many other people she tells the story to will have the same reaction you did.
Even though you did nothing wrong here—if you have the financial ability to do so, it might be nice to offer to help chip in for a replacement.
Your mom is right that there should be a safety feature – the Roomba is meant to have detected when it’s on a ‘cliff’ edge and not gone forward. It’s exactly the same as if it had found a stair or a balcony. Her Roomba was faulty – its edge detection didn’t work, but because of all the water damage there’s no way for her to prove that was the cause and get a replacement. That does suck for her.
It’s super funny, but also a very expensive cost for what she should have been able to demand a replacement. NAH
NTA. Haha, oh man, I’m trying not to laugh but picturing a Roomba doing a doggy paddle is too much. 😆 And your mom thinking they should have built-in floaties? Priceless! It’s like expecting a vacuum to turn into a boat.
I totally get why you cracked up. It’s not really about the Roomba or the cost – it’s just such a bizarre, sitcom-worthy moment. Sometimes life throws these weird curveballs that are just plain funny.
But hey, maybe to smooth things over with your mom, you could send her a funny card? Like a ‘Sorry for your Roomba’s unexpected swimming lesson’ or something. Or even better, get a tiny life jacket for her next Roomba as a gag gift. Could be a hit at Easter dinner, you know?
P.S. Farewell, brave little Roomba. You paddled valiantly.”
NTA.
That is **legit hilarious**. I get so frustrated with people who can’t laugh at themselves when life plays a joke on them.
Thank you for sharing, that is funny AF.
Especially envisioning its frantic death struggles.
I’d say not being invited to ester dinner is a win.
That’s hilarious.
Another Roomba story.
Two married gay coworkers had a Roomba and were once dragooned in to pet sitting for a bichon frise. Their whole apt was white everything and immaculate. White couch white walls white carpet.
They came home one day and the dog had diarrhea, they found the Roomba choked to death on dookie and shit sprayed all over everything in the livingroom
NTA it’s a funny story.
But also it sounds like a faulty unit because Roombas have edge detection and shouldn’t fall off ledges like that. It may well be covered under warranty. Maybe help her check into that so she knows that even though it’s funny you do still care 😆
Is it wrong that I’m imagining a line of cats along the edge of the pool silently watching it flailing its little brush things in desperation?
If YTA then I’m TA too because I was howling with laughter reading this. I get that it’s expensive and she wasn’t amused but it IS FUNNY and I think she’ll probably laugh about it at some point in the future.
NTA. Trying to read this out to my partner and crying with laughter because it’s downright hilarious. The laugh I needed today.
Also funny because this is exactly how my own mum would react and I’m picturing it now…
Sorry about rhe dead Roomba though.
I saw a TikTok last week where a lady’s roomba ran into her (lit) fireplace and caught fire. She was able to get it out of the house, but that sucker was dead.
NTA, because it is funny.
Around the holidays there was a video of a Roomba making an escape. They found it 4 days later in a pile of snow or leaves or in the bushes. Mom’s only mistake was not having a ring camera on, because it’s HILARIOUS.
NTA. A runaway roomba? This is peak boomer Florida behavior. (I’ve got a couple of Florida boomer parents whose first world problems are just sooooooo much). This is hilarious and will only get funnier as the years go on…
I feel like for $400 it should be able to vacuum the pool, too.
If it hadn’t fallen in the pool, I’m picturing the LOST flyers in the neighborhood 😂
she is in her winter residence, clearly not breaking the bank losing $400. This is hilarious
NTA
It is very funny
And you got me with the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang comment.
Tell her to get a Shark; they don’t go over ledges and if it does, sharks can swim.
Well, I laughed too, so if you’re an AH you’re in good company.
NAH. Your mom is out some money and is unhappy about it, which is understandable. And what you described is objectively hilarious, so of course you laughed.
RIP – Roomba in Pool.
I’m surprised it didn’t explode as soon as it got out of the house. After all, nature abhors a vacuum.
I’m here all week folks. 😜😂🤣🙄😜
