Hey everyone, so something pretty frustrating happened to me today… My boss called me a smartass during a heated discussion about my work hours and productivity 😬. Here’s a little context to give you an idea of what went down:
– I’ve been clashing with my company over their recent shift to full Return to Office policies.
– I have a dog that needs extra care, so I would run home during lunch to let him out.
– My boss confronted me about leaving during lunch hours and only working 7 hours a day, despite always meeting deadlines and completing my work on time.
I explained my work style and efficiency to him, but he shut me down and resorted to name-calling 🙄. I’m feeling pretty frustrated and hopeless about the situation.
Does anyone have any advice on how to handle a situation like this? I’m open to suggestions and would love to hear if anyone has gone through something similar. Let’s support each other! 🌟 #SupportiveCommunity #WorkLifeStruggles
Your mistake was saying that you can do 8 hours of your work in less time. Regardless of the veracity of that claim, NEVER tell ANYONE you work with that. They give you 8 hours of work, it takes you 8 hours, period. No benefit to you in fighting, only downsides.
Shitting in his coffee cup might make you feel better. Just a suggestion.
I am confused, are you supposed to work through lunch?
“I’d rather be a smartass than a dumbass like you.”
Slash his tires
*Please don’t really slash his tires
You won’t win this debate. Start looking for work.
“A) lunch is MY time. Your input on how I spend it is not required. And B ) Do you want the work done, or do you want to micromanage the staff so you can feel like you’re contributing?” This won’t help, but it’ll feel good in the moment.
Get that work through lunch thing in writing. That should shut him up. The amount of wage theft fines and fines for not giving mandated breaks would be a definite large impact on the company. And don’t offer to work on lunch break, you are completing your work on time and that’s all that really matters.
I guess that makes him a dumbass?
Move to Europe, seriously. I can’t understand why US citizens put up with that shit.
“I’ve heard worse from better” is my go to response to name calling in the office.
Get a different job.
Would you prefer I be a Dumbass? What’s your point calling me names?
I hate managers like this. It’s like they WANT inefficiency.
My takeaway from this is that you need to start searching for a new job right now. If someone spoke to me like that I would be putting in 8 hours a day of company time looking for work.
Sardines in the heating vents. Guarantee you’ll get to work from home by November.
Let me guess – 50 year old white man who wears khakis and loafers and was taught by his boomer boss in the 90s that bullying the employees conveys dominance. “Instill fear and they will work harder.” <— every boss I’ve ever had for 25 years.
let me guess you dont get paid for lunch
