#OntarioCarTaxIssue #QuebecRegistration #TaxRefundConfusion
Hey everyone! 🚗💸 Has anyone else experienced getting charged twice for taxes when buying a car in Ontario to register in Quebec? I could use some advice on this confusing situation!
So, here’s what happened to me: I bought a car from a dealership in Ontario, paid the tax, and then headed back to Quebec for registration. When I got to SAAQ, they asked me to pay another 10% of Quebec sales tax. 🤔
The SAAQ staff mentioned something about getting a refund from Ontario for the tax I already paid, while the dealership said I should apply for a refund from CRA. It’s all a bit unclear… Has anyone successfully gone through this process before?
Any tips on how to actually get the refund and where to apply for it would be greatly appreciated! Here’s what I think could be a possible solution:
– Contact the Ontario Ministry of Finance for information on tax refunds
– Reach out to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for guidance on tax refunds for vehicle purchases
– Keep all your receipts and documentation handy for the refund process
Feel free to share your experiences and advice! Let’s help each other out in navigating this tax refund confusion. 🤝💡
Are you a tax resident of Quebec?
My father went thru something similar when he bought a car from auction in Ontario.
You will need to submit a form to get reimbursed with the Ontario MOT.
Next time, just get a temporary plate from Quebec ONLY and drive it home.
Albertan bought a car in ontario. They only charged the gst portion. No pst.

I bought a car in Ontario then took it to NB and had to pay tax a second time, but I was able to apply for a refund to Ontario and got the tax that I paid originally back.
