(30M) I need a new career desperately. It poisons my life. 😞
The Problem:
Are you feeling trapped in a career you despise? Do you wake up every morning dreading the thought of going to work? You’re not alone. Many individuals find themselves stuck in a job that drains the life out of them, just like you in Construction Management. It’s time to take control of your happiness and make a change.
Solutions:
1. Reflect on Your Passions:
Take some time to reflect on what truly makes you happy and fulfills you. Your degree in Genetics may seem irrelevant now, but it could spark a new career path that aligns with your interests and passions.
2. Explore Career Options:
- Research different industries and roles that interest you.
- Consider taking career assessments to identify suitable career options based on your skills and interests.
3. Further Education:
If you’re willing to take on student loans or forego income for a few years, consider going back to school to pursue a degree or certification in a field that excites you. Many universities offer flexible programs tailored for career changers.
4. Networking:
- Connect with professionals in your desired industry through networking events, LinkedIn, and informational interviews.
- Seek mentorship from individuals who have successfully transitioned careers later in life.
5. Volunteer or Intern:
Gain hands-on experience in your new field by volunteering or interning part-time. This can help you test the waters and build your skills and network.
6. Seek Professional Help:
Consider working with a career coach or counselor who can provide guidance and support throughout your career transition journey.
Remember, it’s never too late to pursue a career that brings you joy and fulfillment. With determination, dedication, and the right support, you can break free from the toxicity of your current job and embark on a new and exciting career path.
Don’t let fear or doubt hold you back. Take the first step towards a brighter future today!
How is that degree useless? Regardless I’m sure you could get into many types of grad programs.
Pivoting at 30 isn’t a big deal, chill out. People pivot at 40. 50. In fact, my understanding is you should be operating on ten year plans. Your 20-30 ten year plan was construction management. Figure out something fulfilling with good pay that can last another 10-15. You will figure it out.
Locate a career counsellor and arrive with a comprehensive list of your qualifications. Do the testing, review your options and construct an attractive resume. Beat on doors until one opens. Some times it takes patience for opportunities to arrive.
Yep… I was in industrial automation. Good money, interesting, but every other aspect was destroying me by the day. Working high end restaurants now and finishing an EE degree. I’ve gotten to know regulars that own/are plugged into all sorts of industries, many saying they’ve got a spot waiting for me if I want it. Meanwhile, I’ve got decent money rolling in and don’t have a constant feeling of despair.
I wish there was a specific discord group for 30 yr old findapath users.
Lots of money in genetics. My dil makes serious bank in the field. 30 is not too old for anything. Thoughtfully chase your dreams. Don’t change jobs before getting something else locked up. Good luck.
