About five years ago, I left my cal state university without finishing my bachelors degree due to some emotional, financial, and mental struggles. Now, working in commercial property management, I’m feeling trapped and anxious about my future. I’ve been considering a surgical tech program for job stability and decent pay, but I can’t shake the fear of struggling in school like I did before.

Can you make an appointment with an academic advisor to get specific information about supports that can help you? It sounds like some of your anxiety is coming from not having specific information, just general fears. Write down all your questions and try to be as specific as you can and start finding the people who can answer your questions. How much would it cost to finish? How much is the surgical tech program tuition? What kind of accommodation can you get for any mental health or executive function challenges? Are there bursaries or financial aid available? What is the salary you can expect after finishing and how long will it take you to pay off debt after finishing?
