“Should I Reach Out to the Recruiter About the Internship Opportunity I Declined Last Month? #Internship #Opportunity #Recruiter #Summer”
Have you ever declined an internship offer only to regret it later on? Wondering if it’s worth reaching out to the recruiter again after a month to see if the position is still available? Here are some considerations to keep in mind before sending that email:
Reasons for Declining
– Quick turnaround and no relocation assistance
– Other interview opportunities lined up
– Concerns about housing and relocation costs
Current Situation
– No internship secured for the summer
– Regret over declining the offer
– Desire to work for the company
Should You Contact the Recruiter?
– Explain your change in circumstances
– Express genuine interest in the position
– Emphasize that you now have housing and can cover relocation costs
– Acknowledge the learning experience
Before sending that email, consider the potential benefits and risks. While it may feel embarrassing to reach out after declining an offer, it’s important to weigh the possibility of securing an internship with a company you admire. Good luck!
Yes. Shoot your shot.
It’s worth asking, but it’s also already may, so it’ll be a quick turn around.
Definitely go for it. We had an intern at my old company do this – she declined originally due to location but came back 3 months later asking if there was a way for her to still take the offer. She approached it with humility and not expecting anything, and while her original internship was filled, it just so happened that an intern in an adjacent group reneged on their offer days earlier. We were able to slot her in as the replacement for the other intern. Sometimes the stars just aligned.
Note, she ended up getting a full time offer and returning the following year after graduation. So win-win.
Answer is no if you don’t ask. At least asking gives you a shot!
