Hey everyone! So, I’m in a bit of a quandary at my café job, and I could really use your input! 😊
Here’s the scoop: I’ve been working as a closer at this café for three years, and honestly, I’ve been pretty great at it! I even train new baristas, but guess what? I haven’t seen a raise for all my hard work. In fact, the location 40 minutes away gives their trainers a dollar more per hour, which just adds to my frustration. 😤
- Despite my experience, I’m barely making minimum wage and when I train someone, the tips are split, which leaves me making even less. I’m not okay with that anymore!
- I recently told my boss that I’m not comfortable training since I’m getting underpaid. I even gave him three weeks’ notice and said I’d train people only if it was fairly compensated. He got angry and just ghosted me! 📱
Now here’s where it gets tricky. I checked my schedule for tomorrow, and surprise! He has me down to train a new barista. I’ve clearly told him I’m not doing it. I can totally see him saying, “Sure, no problem,” and then expecting me to train her anyway when I show up. It’s classic manipulation! 🙄
So, I’m considering two options:
- If he insists that I train her, I might just block his number and not show up. 🛑
- If he says I won’t have to train her but I still find her there, I think I’ll just walk out. ✌️
Now, I need your advice: Would I be wrong for taking either of these routes? I’m a 21-year-old college student who really values a strong work ethic, but I refuse to be treated like a doormat any longer.
What would you do in my shoes? Have you ever faced something similar? Let’s chat about it! 💬
Follow your dignity! No one will gaf about this job, resume wise. You could leave a special vm intro for him, “i can’t come to the phone right now, unless it’s X, then I won’t ever answer. You’re a dirt bag for treating me so shabbily. Have fun closing!”
You don’t owe this guy anything. Block him and move on.
Ah, too bad you must have eaten some bad sushi. Good luck recovering from the stomach bug that’s stopping your from going in to work tomorrow.
If you have enough financial cushion to cover an unexpected week off work, I’d tell him since he obviously isn’t listening to the boundaries you’ve set, then you’ll just make your notice two weeks instead of three. He can train and close himself.
