Re-securing Buildings Post-Raid
When law enforcement conducts a raid and forcibly enters a building, such as blowing a door off its hinges, are they required to take steps to close that opening? This question not only pertains to further investigation but also to prevent unauthorized access by individuals who do not belong on the premises.
Responsibility for Securing Buildings
- After breaking into a building on a raid, are law enforcement officers responsible for ensuring the premise is secured?
- Does law enforcement need to take action to close any openings created during the raid to prevent unauthorized entry?
- What steps do officers need to take to secure a building after conducting a raid?
It’s important to consider the implications of law enforcement operations on building security and the responsibility of officers to re-secure premises after a raid.
I was in a house that raided for drugs once, cops just “set” the door back and put police tape but the didn’t really secure it.
IDK it could be different in different states.
Not really
No. The city may settle for the cost of repair, but no punitive damages or legal fees.
Nope. Cops can literally destroy your house completely and give you the bill.
If police started being threatened with actual consequences they’d start executing judges and politicians in the streets.
There was a news story a while back where the cops raided the wrong house and caused thousands of dollars of damage and the owners were on the hook for it.
well, they can shoot you without any responsibility so I’d say they definitely don’t care about your door.
In some places, no.
I think its most places.
What do you think

We see this question come up every few months lol and the comments always mention that one time the cops ran into someone’s home by accident and refused to pay for the damages.
