Choosing a college major is as a business decision. In today’s world, where endless information is accessible for free, it doesn’t make sense to spend on tuition to pursue subjects purely based on interest. These can be explored independently without cost. Choose a field of study that you can tolerate which promises the highest possible financial returns.
It is until you have enough of it.*
*Exceptions apply.
Can I ask where are you from? In my country you would never have to face a situation like this. To me this sound crazy. Here everyone has all the healthcare that is necessary. Even if you are in the middle of a bankrupt.
Yes. Never in the history of humanity has having access to abundant resources NOT mattered.
So get back to work.
Money is always king in the real world. Don’t let anyone lie to you. Whoever has all the money has all the power.
Had the same thought these days with cost of living and everything
you can have all the money in the world but if you don’t have health your money is worthless. So there is no right answer unfortunately. Life can be cruel and equally as beautiful, we do what we can and hopefully we enjoy what we do. You could be writing this post saying “I worked all my life and financed my family to live a long life but I was always working and never got to see them, is that all?” there are always pitfalls.
No
is it THE most important thing? no, love, connection, friendship and health are the most important.
is money #5 on that list, yes. in other words, making a lot of money is almost as important as love and connection.
No amount of money is enough. You make as much as you can to put it in assets that produce more money without having to work for it.
On the degree talk, I’ve come to realize that many wealthy individuals have no college education. Plan ahead to build income streams from assets that make your money work to get you more money and you’ll be set.
Money buys you the freedom to do what you want. Where that limit is differs from person-to-person. With that said, a high income doesn’t guarantee a better life necessarily if you’re bad with money anyways.
I work in healthcare and all I’ll say is live the best life you can while being reasonably responsible with the money you do earn. If you feel your chosen career won’t earn enough to support your lifestyle or give enough of a safety cushion, switch to one that will. Life can be short and health is unfortunately never guaranteed. I see it all the time and it breaks my heart especially when the person is young with a serious injury or medical issue.
So evaluate what’s important to you, what you want out of a career and pursue your options from there.
You should always study a degree that makes you money. You can do a second major in something you enjoy.
Best medical advice – fly to a country like thailand, south korea, vietnam and do medical procedures over there.
