#SalaryQuestion #UnderpaidSecurityEngineer #JobMarket #CareerQuestions
Hey everyone! 👋 I’ve been working as a Security Engineer for over 5 years now, with experience in both consulting and corporate settings. My current base salary is 101k, with a total compensation of around 110k but that extra 9k isn’t guaranteed. I’m located in the NJ/PA area and have a Bachelor’s degree, several certifications including CISSP, and will soon complete my Master’s in Cybersecurity.
Do you think I’m underpaid with my current salary? 🤔 Considering my experience and credentials, should I be aiming for a base salary of 120-130k in my region?
I’m even considering relocating to DC where the pay is higher, even though the cost of living is about the same. What do you think? 🌆💰
Possible solution:
– Research salary ranges for Security Engineers in your area and compare them to your current salary
– Consider negotiating a raise with your current employer based on your experience and achievements
– Explore job opportunities in different locations with higher pay rates
I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice on this! Let’s discuss. 💬
Idk about where you live. But you could probably make a lot more if you move to the DMV area and get someone to sponsor you for a clearance. Some company probably would.
Curious to know if the MS will help you make more money. I’ve been told to go for MBA over MS if you’ve already got experience and advanced certifications in the field.
Apply to other jobs, if someone is willing to hire you and pay you more, then you’re underpaid.
Depends on many factors. Apply for another job, ask for 120K and you will find out 😉 it’s way easier to negotiate when you aren’t jobless
5 years nearly anywhere will make a person underpaid. Annual raises are typically 3-5% if you’re lucky but changing jobs will easly get you 10-20%, or more). Even an in house promotion (I scoff because so many places rarely promote from within) will not match the money earned by finding a new job with a higher rank.
You can and should be clearing 200k+ TC with salary being at least 150k
