#ShowerStruggles: Is it really unacceptable not to shower every day? ๐ฟ
Hey there! So, I have a little confession to make – I typically shower every 2-3 days. Yes, you read that right! I know, shocking, right? ๐ When I say I don’t shower every day, I mean I really don’t step into a shower at all. My curly hair doesn’t get greasy often, and I’ve mastered the art of hiding any signs of unwashed hair with cute hairstyles and accessories. Plus, I don’t sweat much and always have my trusty scented deodorant on hand.
But recently, I stumbled upon a post that was absolutely roasting people who don’t shower every single day. The comment section was filled with folks who swear by multiple showers a day, and now I’m feeling a bit self-conscious. My boss even made a passing comment assuming everyone showers daily, and I awkwardly went along with it.
I did some digging and found out that the WHO doesn’t even recommend daily showers, and some experts say it’s not the best for your skin and hair. Are daily showers just an American thing? Am I really committing a hygiene sin by not showering every day?
So, I’m turning to you all for some insight. What’s your take on this? Let’s chat and figure this out together! ๐ฌ #DailyShowerDebate #CurlyHairStruggles #HygieneConfessions
No, it’s fine to shower every 2-3 days as long as you don’t stink.
It depends on the person. If you have BO then you need to shower more. If not then itโs fine
This gets posted once a week… It is totally OK to not shower every day if you don’t stink, are not covered in dirt, and your hygiene is generally OK otherwise.
It’s not that it’s ‘unacceptable’, it’s just that you might stink. You write that you ‘don’t sweat often’ and ‘wear scented deodorant’, but you may still stink.
We don’t usually smell our own BO, the brain filters it out. Also, BO+scented deodorant just smells like BO+scented deodorant, the purpose of antiperspirant is not to mask smells but instead to slow down one common source of it (the musk glands in the armpits).
If you’re comfortable with being the ‘stinky guy’ in the office (a title you’re unlikely to discover in most cases) then every 2-3 days is what it is.
I shower in the morning and evenin because it just feels good.ย Helps the body to relax.
It depends on your genetics, your climate, and your level of activity.
I know some people who shower daily. I know people who only shower a couple times a week. As long as people can’t smell you and your skin and hair are healthy, you’re fine skipping a shower for a day or two.
Shower when you need it.
Honestly I know a lot of people who also only shower every 2-3 days because they claim to have no BO, and they all really stink.
I think as long as you’re showering according to how often you sweat it is only logical. I’ll also say that as somebody with very sensitive skin, showering daily tends to dry out my skin and it feels a lot better to shower every other day.
If you don’t have a dirty, sweaty hobby or job, it’s not a big deal. Having said that…. If my husband did not shower before bed, he would not be getting a certain activity. I don’t care if he thinks he didn’t get sweaty today. You can shower or we can go right to sleep. Choose your battles wisely.
Also, you can shower without washing your curly hair. I shower daily but only wash my curls twice a week at most.
Its a taxing routine to shower each day?
Im going to spare you a long post, you dont need to wash your hair each day, but none of your coworkers are going to object to you using a bar of soap and changing your clothes each day. Everyone smells, its just that some people arent aware of their smell and it becomes an issue for everyone around them. There isnt anything adhd about that.
In what context was the bossโs comment about showering every day brought up? I feel like that could be them trying to tell you (or someone else in the office) that you need to shower more often.
I don’t shower every day except maybe in the summer when I sweat a lot
Just make sure you wash the bits that are likely to get whiffy in between the showers, and you’ll be fine.
You can shower without washing your hair. In the summer time when it’s really humid where I live, sometimes I shower in the morning and rinse off at night before going to bed. I want to wash all the sweat off me, but I don’t want to wash my hair again. Just get a shower cap or something to cover your hair.
Not showering everyday’s no biggie, as long as you ain’t stinking up the place. You do you.
Please tell me you at least use a bidet
I live in the desert. If I showered every day my skin would fall off and my hair would disintegrate. Source: parents made me shower every day growing up.
When I visited a humid area, I needed to shower every day. My hair was better than back home.ย
Climate is what determines, mostly. Activity is important too, but climate is your baseline.ย
every other day is fine.. but depends. if you worked out at gym or are sweaty, then yea you need to shower after a workout.
1 or 2 days is OK but more than 3, no way. I could smell my self in 2 days if I don’t shower fully.
I wash most of my body everyday but don’t necessarily shower everyday
Shower everyday please. People can smell you. Trust me.
i do every other day typically. i work in an office so i itโs not like i sweat at all during the day and my skin and hair suffer if i do every day
Unless you’re camping, no imo. A lot of ppl here agree, but ppl reek more often than they think.
I live alone and with my job I get a week off every fourth week. Sometimes I won’t bother showering for a couple days, but the moment I smell myself, or I’ve got plans I’m in there ASAP.
As long as you don’t smell and look clean I don’t think anyone would care.
I shower twice a week. Never had complaints of other people that I stink.
Iirc, this is fine once ur not living in hot climates. As someone who lives in the tropical zone. At the very least, u gotta bathe once a day. Otherwise, you risk getting infections and inflamation under ur arm and in your crotch area. *I learned this the hard way.*
Thereโs a difference between BO and โunwashedโ, the latter smelling like oils – like a pillowcase that hasnโt been washed in a couple of weeks.
I worked with a guy who clearly didnโt bathe daily. He didnโt have BO but he smelled unclean. I avoided him as much as possible.
Howโs you butt and junk? That kinda gets smelly pretty quicklyโฆ.sitting in it all day long. Farting, wiping in a rushโฆmore sittingโฆpubic hair gathering food crumbsโฆ
Iโve know a few people that only shower every couple days. I could smell their hair when they came close to me.
To get an accurate answer, donโt shower for 3 days, then ask a close family member if you smell and ask them to be honest.
Are you female? I stink if I don’t shower every day (male). I wonder if biological males smell more than females?
I canโt shower every day – it literally ruins my hair & skin. ย (Theyโll both dry out – even with literal prescription strength lotion cream.) ย I shower every other day. ย The ONLY time I break that schedule is if I do something to get dirty/sweaty – but if I can plan that, I try to do that stuff on the day I shower. ย
I shower around the same,my skin gets irritated if I wash more
Even if you don’t have BO and aren’t sweating, your body can start to develop a funk.
I smell it a LOT on specific groups of people:
Old people, who can’t smell themselves and think they no longer need to bathe frequently.
Young people, like older kids and young teens who don’t know how to properly wash when in the shower and just get wet and think they’re clean.
Recent immigrants from certain regions where hygiene standards are different and not everyone has unlimited water on demand.
Someone telling you “you have a natural smell” is a yellow flag and sounds like someone trying not to offend.
No,advisable to wash face, groin area, underarms, back of neck, behind ears and possibly soles of feet daily, the sink will do fine.
A lot of people here seem very convinced that not showering every day will mean that you stink, even if you don’t sweat. It’s happened to me before that I hadn’t showered for 3 days, put some dry shampoo in my hair and people told me they thought I smelled nice when giving me a hug. So I think it’s safe to say I do not stink after not showering. Unless I’ve been sweating, I shower every other day.
I don’t shower every day. I work from home, and maybe leave my house twice a week. I’m not doing anything that’s making me sweaty, or smelly, so I shower every few days. My teenager, almost 16, showers daily. He goes to school daily, out with friends, sweats, etc.
All this to say, it depends on lifestyle.
If your neurospicy brain can’t deal with daily showering try what my family calls “bird baths” That’s where you use a face cloth & soap at the sink to wash your face, neck, underarm s & nether regions.Wash your feet in the tub quick,no need to fill up just step in & run the water & wash. This way you don’t have to worry about BO being an issue & it takes less executive function than showering
Eew. I can smell you from here. You canโt smell you as easily as others can. Keep that in mind.
Use a shower cap for the curly hair. Soap and water on the stinky areas. Stay clean. You should be changing your sheets and bedding every 5-7 days if you only shower 2-3 times a week.
I also shower every 2-3 days. Itโs totally acceptable since I donโt smell bad, donโt sweat a lot (I shower if I did exercise) and I donโt look dirty.
My hair can go 2 weeks without looking greasy. Iโm particularly lucky abt that. I already asked some friends to determine how long my hair had not been showered and they answered โlike 3 days ?โ and it was in fact 2,5 weeks.
It can look disgusting for some, but hair definitely donโt need to be washed as often as the majority thinks. As long as you donโt bother others by smelling, looking dirty itโs OK.
You likely have poor hygiene (i.e. more smell) than you think. Others smell us more than we smell ourselves. I absolutely shower every day, and if I go to the gym or do something strenuous, more than once a day. Maybe once a year I will skip a shower, and that would be a day where I’m literally just home all day on the couch, interacting with no one except my girlfriend. And even then…no sexy times.
No offense, but how the hell is showering a taxing routine? The entire thing, including the undressing, drying and dressing, could take 10 minutes, 15 minutes tops.
tl;dr take more showers.
If you are going into the office or have an in person job, you absolutely should wash your body every day. If youโre working from home, itโs fine. No one is around to smell you, lol.
