Is sourcing the most boring thing in recruiting? π€ For many recruiters, the answer is a resounding YES. The endless hours spent scouring the internet for potential candidates, sifting through countless resumes, and reaching out to passive candidates can often feel like a monotonous and tedious task. But fear not, there are practical solutions to make sourcing more engaging and effective. Let’s explore some strategies to spice up your sourcing game and make recruiting a more enjoyable experience.
The Problem: Feeling Bored and Burnt Out from Endless Sourcing
Sourcing can be a repetitive and draining process, leading to recruiter fatigue and disengagement. Staring at screens for hours on end, scrolling through profiles, and sending out generic messages can make sourcing feel like a mind-numbing chore.
Solution 1: Get Creative with Your Search Techniques
Instead of relying solely on job boards and LinkedIn, think outside the box. Use niche job boards, social media platforms, and professional groups to uncover hidden talent. Try Boolean search strings to refine your results and target specific skills or experience.
Solution 2: Personalize Your Outreach Efforts
Avoid sending out generic messages that lack personalization. Take the time to craft tailored messages that show you’ve done your homework on the candidate. Mention specific details from their profile or previous work to demonstrate genuine interest.
The Problem: Lack of Engagement and Responses from Candidates
Reaching out to potential candidates and receiving no response can be disheartening and demotivating. It’s easy to feel like your efforts are going unnoticed and unappreciated.
Solution 1: Optimize Your Messaging Strategy
Craft attention-grabbing subject lines and messages that resonate with your target audience. Highlight the value proposition of the role and company to entice candidates to engage with your outreach.
Solution 2: Follow Up Strategically
Don’t give up after one message. Follow up with candidates in a timely and respectful manner. Show persistence without being pushy, and offer additional information or resources to pique their interest.
In conclusion, sourcing doesn’t have to be the most boring thing in recruiting. By implementing creative search techniques, personalizing your outreach efforts, optimizing your messaging strategy, and strategic follow-ups, you can make sourcing more engaging and fruitful. Remember, recruiting is all about building relationships and connecting with top talent. So, embrace the challenge and inject some excitement into your sourcing process. Happy recruiting! ππ
It depends on the role. I think sourcing on those roles that are a bit βpurple squirrelβ but not insanely hard are actually really fun.
Iβd say the most boring part is all the admin tasks and talking to candidates that you donβt have roles for or donβt expect to have roles for π
Scheduling, if you have to do it. If you are good at sourcing you never have to turn down a candidate.
Proper bookkeeping is the most boring thing in recruiting but damn if it isn’t critical.
Documentation and paper trails saves recruiters lives but man is it like pulling teeth.
That’s my favorite thing!
Scheduling (if you’re with a coordinator and/or software) is my most boring thing to do.
I love it.
Fuck yes. I hate it.
I love personally finding ~that~ candidate that checks off majority of boxes. And then having the hiring manager pass on them lol
Not in my opinion. I love sourcing. Iβm in a niche where people have very limited resumes so when I identify candidates I often need to use social media and similar methods to what PIs and skip tracers use to find contact info. Itβs like putting a puzzle together and I get to be a stalker for a moment π€£
I like sourcing. Going through resumes in the ATS boring to me. I absolutely loathe resume formatting too π‘
