Unfortunately the weight and battery are too big of an issue for me. I’d much rather have my Switch, Vita, or 3DS on hand.
I’ve been pondering getting it for a while and I think the thing is that I’m not really travelling a lot to justify getting a steam deck to play on the go. The only real use I’d get out of it would be just to play in bed or while I’m on the train to work but I think I can do without personally
Asus Rog Ally is best.
Not only more powerful.
Also can do more on it, as well not only use steam, but epic and blizzard and many others.
Also you can find a lot of accessories that make life easier for traveling.
Be great if they actually sold them here ๐

The games you bought on Steam in the 2000’s still works on your Steam Deck and even in the next gen the Steam Deck 2 it will still works and the next gen and the next gen etc. thats why a handheld PC is the best gaming on the go.
I love the Steam Deck. Been taking to cloud gaming on a Logitech G Cloud lately too, the upside being insane battery life and much better ergonomics but of course it depends on the internet you’re using.
I was actually thinking about getting one over the last couple of days. Have to ask though.
What problems with it running on Linux cause? Because thatโs the major downside I keep hearing. Limits what type of games can run on it or something?
Iโm only about a year in with PC. And Iโm still learning all the ins and outs, terminology, etc.
My question is does it stop functioning after a period of time if you dont have access to the net.
I know we are super connected in a lot of places, but Ive been more than a few situations where I have not had net access for a period of time.
i thought the steam deck wasnt well regarded? ive been thinking about a handheld console but i dont want to get a switch since it doesnt have the games i want to play. so maybe ill check out steam deck
is there a way to connect a keyboard and mouse for handheld consoles?
Got a laptop instead. No ragrets.
Medium settings at 30 fps? I’d rather watch a playthrough :\
Iโm moving overseas soon and thinking this could be my way forward!
Would this play escape from tarkov well tho?
Disagree.
The performance and utility of the Ally is greater than the steam deck in about every way.
Watt per Watt, the Ally (with its latest updates) is just as efficient and sometimes more so at low power. This translates into longer batter life.
In higher wattage situations, it performance significantly better than the steam deck.
It’s priced similarly as the OLED deck making it an excellent value proposition.
Also because it runs Windows it requires far less workarounds to get common use programs running for both modding, productivity tools, and general use browsing. This makes it a more viable multi purpose unit to include being used in docked situations.
The Ally uses the proprietary Asus external GPU connector to increase graphics power. While I despise their proprietary approach and prefer the GPDs use of the Occulink port, the Steam Deck doesn’t have eGPU capability at all.
The only advantages of the Deck are the slightly thicker plastic in some parts but that slight advantage does not make up for the performance difference. Secondly, the deck has a decent touch pad which can come in handy depending on what you’re doing but in reality, if the touch pad is being used, it’s likely the user would be better served with a keyboard/mouse.
If anyone is a really considering a handheld at the Steam Deck price range, the Ally is a better choice.
(Don’t take this to mean I am an Ally fanboy. I actually prefer the GPD product over either of the options but it costs a premium).
Diablo 4 is a steam game. It was on sale for 50% off
Buttery smooth is not 30-60 fps cuh
You don’t even need to be a frequently travelling to enjoy the SD. I mainly use it as my “PC gaming lying on my bed” device.
The reason I dont get it is the same reason the Switch’s gimmick makes it just a gimped console to me. I don’t travel.
I just use steam link to stream my games to my phone with a cheap $30 phone controller.ย
Ive tried one and realized I just hate small form gaming like that. The small screen, after playing on a proper screen, just isnt fun for me.
Not available in many countries.
As someone who also travels a lot, I love my Lenovo legion, and am perfectly content with it.
Travemรผnde 2 times a year for holidays, flirten with the idea to get one last year, but had a switch with me and didn’t even bott it up seemingly I’m a lazy fuck that get’s beertreatment both inside and outside for some crust
