Hey tech enthusiasts! π»π Let’s talk about the age-old dilemma: “Is the A+ certification worth it for landing an entry-level tech job?” π€
Here’s the scenario: You’re aiming for a cybersecurity career, but you realize you might need to start at the bottom and work your way up. You already have an associate degree in cybersecurity, Sec+ certification, and you’re pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a minor in computer science. So, is adding the A+ certification to your list of accomplishments necessary?
Possible Solutions:
– The A+ certification can be beneficial for entry-level roles like help desk positions as it validates your foundational IT knowledge.
– It can provide a solid base for understanding hardware, software, and troubleshooting, which are essential skills in many tech jobs.
– The hands-on experience gained while preparing for the A+ exam can be valuable for future roles in cybersecurity.
In conclusion, while the A+ certification may not be a must-have for your desired career path in cybersecurity, it could still be a valuable stepping stone to gaining practical tech experience. π Share your thoughts and experiences below! π #CareerAdvice #TechSkills
Yes it’s worth it
Well look at security related internships around the country, and see what they ask for. Then apply to them.
Worth it? Yes. The only thing you need? Absolutely not
Na do CCNA or something on the cisa/Cissp track. Iβd bin your shit if I saw a+ on there is isnβt 1992
Yes
No.
Practice practice practice
Take everything you learn, build a homelab and practice daily.
Plenty of shit entry level jobs that look at experience and practical skill won’t care so much about certs.
I know because I’ve had 3 in the past few years. Currently, looking at about 75k for mid level without any of the fancy paperwork or a degree.
Autodidact and having the skill to communicate yourself and conviction go a long way.
If you are in a busy area, you’d be best off looking at what others don’t have.
Put together an example of your capabilities:
E.G a website or web-app that can demo your skills.
Make this your resume.
Consider doing your own consulting work for people for cheaper to get a feel for it.
A+ at least shows decent proficiency in basics and checks a box, get it
The a+ shouldn’t be much of a distraction.
How do you expect to get past the catch-22?
Of course the A+ gives you basic general knowledge of everything. Absolutely worth it
Yes, that is correct. You can’t just jump into cybersecurity as a rookie. You have to drink some carrot soup first. π
You have Sec+, you hope to get Net+ while working on your bachelor’s degree…
Dude imo apparently you have too much time to waste π You don’t need any certificate to get an entry level job in IT. A+ is good but from youtube you can get much more profit instead of A+
Don’t forget… You can get endless many certificates but if you don’t have any practice they mean nothing.
Though there are exceptions that can make you more valuable without practice for sure. Like CCNA or AWS/Cloud certificates…
The point is to differentiate yourself from other candidates.
A+ will not get you into cybersecurity, but they want very qualified individuals. Iβd recommend the trifecta. Then ccna then get a job at a company that has both networking/security teams. Talk to your security team and see what theyβd want to transfer you over to the security side of the house.
