#TIL 🕵️♂️the FBI 👥recommends adblockers as a necessary tool for online safety. 🛡️🔒
Did you know that the FBI 🚓 is advising everyone to use adblockers? 😮 That’s right, those nifty little tools can enhance your online security and protect you from potential threats. 🛡️✨ So, if you don’t have one installed yet, let me tell you why it’s time to hop on the adblocker bandwagon! 🚀
🎯First and foremost, adblockers shield you from those annoying ads that pop up all over the internet. 🚫💩 You know, the ones that interrupt your browsing experience, slow down your device, and sometimes even try to trick you into clicking on them. 🙄 Say goodbye to those pesky distractions! ✋
🔒But adblockers do more than just get rid of annoying advertisements. They also help protect your personal information from cybercriminals. 😱🔐 By blocking those sneaky third-party scripts and trackers, you’re safeguarding your data and making it harder for malicious actors to invade your privacy. 🛡️💪
🌟Imagine you’re surfing the web and suddenly a flashy banner ad appears, boasting about a fantastic deal on a product you’ve been eyeing. Now, here’s the catch: unknown to you, that ad has been compromised by hackers, ready to trick you into downloading malware. 😨🌐 But guess what? With an adblocker in place, that malicious code won’t even have a chance to reach your device! 🙅♂️🛡️
💡Here’s another scenario: you’re reading an intriguing article when, out of the blue, an autoplay video starts blasting at full volume. 😫🤬 Let’s be honest, we’ve all been there. But fear not, my friend! Adblockers are here to save the day! 🙌 With them blocking those intrusive videos, you can peacefully enjoy your reading without any unexpected noise interruptions. 📖🔇
Remember, our digital world is full of threats lurking around every virtual corner, and it’s important to take precautions. 🛡️✨ By using an adblocker, you’re not only reclaiming your browsing experience but also adding an extra layer of security to your online activities. 👍 So why wait? Protect yourself today and give those ads the boot! 🚫👟

> Before clicking on an advertisement, check the URL to make sure the site is authentic
Or just don’t.
Have you ever once seen a popup and suddenly thought, *yes, I need this good or service, glad they covered up these search search results so I can drop what I’m doing and read this sales pitch. Better click on it!*
YouTube trying to remove Adblock but their platform is becoming terrible
I watched a 5 minute video and had to watch 3 different ads, might as well go back to cable at this point, at least it was ads every 15 minutes
YouTube: “No, don’t listen to the FBI.”
They also recommend you get a webcam cover.
I wish there was a way to tell advertisement companies that I’m too broke to afford anything that they’re trying to sell me.
Ads have the opposite effect on me than they intend. I have been forced to see some KFC ads recently on you tube and am now quite purposefully avoiding it. I have been avoiding a few products because their ads interrupted my watching.
ublock origin and privacy badger. You have to refresh the ublock origin list of blocks every now and then if you start getting ads on youtube
Do you guys know how to install ad block in real life?
I’ve seen ads for things that have genuinely interested me. But I can not under any circumstance imagine actually clicking on the ad itself to learn more. I’ll open a new tab and search for the product/whatever in the ad.
Even when I search things and the first link that shows up, I’ll skip down the the same link but isn’t promoted. Not sure why people would click on an ad even if they’re interested.
They’re not wrong.
In the old days ads were screened. These days they literally can’t. They get a bucket of ads, and they have to hit approve/deny on all of them.
Advertisers, and their money, have too loud a voice on the internet. Aside from youtube. Google is eating SHIT right now, just trying to keep the site up.
I hope they succeed so youtube will be forced to get rid of their bs system
Tell that to YouTube.
i get why. 95% of viruses nowadays are from dodgy ads
Remember, kids, Google says you should ignore the FBI.
so will itp become legislation, so youtube can remove the infernal anti adblocker
Anyone have suggestions for a good ad-blocking solution that’s unlikely to break websites? I’m strongly considering installing adblockers on my parents’ computers (or maybe something on their network?), but they won’t know how to allow-list things that break. Would a DNS-based solution be reliable? (pi-hole seems cool, but I don’t really want to manage a server)
Or, you know, sites like Google could actually police their own fucking platforms.
Hahahaha fuck you YouTube / Google
Scammers pissed off the malware laced ads aren’t getting to as many people now. Fuck ’em. Load up multiple ad blockers. AdBlock, uBlock, and whatever else. Or you let some black hat in Burundi or Mumbai have all your shit.
the FBI is at least 5-10 years behind the reality of cybersecurity so maybe find a better source for your guidelines
that said, yes, ads are not curated and there’s really nothing stopping their sources from swapping out to malicious code at any time
so yes you should block them

Youtube, take notes!!! Forcing people not to use Adblock is ridiculous 🙁
Makes sense. Ads are essentially malware.
