#SysAdminPosition #ProjectBased #DayToDayTasks #Automation #SystemAdministrator
Hey team! 👋 I’m currently looking into some system administrator positions and I’ve heard that they can be mostly project-based. I’m curious to know if this is true – is there not much day-to-day work when alerts and tasks are automated?
Here are some thoughts I have on this topic:
– Project-based work can provide engaging and challenging tasks to keep you on your toes
– Automation of alerts and repetitive tasks can free up time for more strategic projects
– Balancing project work with routine tasks can help maintain a productive workflow
What are your thoughts on this? Feel free to share your experiences or any insights you may have on how system administrator positions operate in different environments! Let’s spark a discussion and learn from each other’s perspectives. 💬🔧🖥️
My current role is very much day to day handling alerts … but I am in the process of automating everything. Someone has to put out the fires.
You can use zabbix and be pro active on alerts before they become issues.
Normally project based on contracts not like permanent w2
It’s entirely dependent on the company and position.
My job is all project and automation based, but that doesn’t mean your job will be.
We’re splitting hairs because titles can vary greatly and are not always a good representation of your duties.
But generally speaking, an admin would have operational responsibilities most of the time, so you’ll need to provide support which isn’t likely to be project based.
If it were an engineer position with real engineer responsibilities, then I could see it being project based. How common system engineer roles are would be another debate.
