#ToxicWorkplace #ITCareer #HRManagerNexus
Hey there fellow IT professionals! Let’s talk about the toxic relationship between project managers and HR departments in Indian corporate IT companies. This toxic nexus has caused misery for many IT careers, but fear not, I have some actionable advice to share with you.
##Understanding the Toxic Nexus
In many large IT services companies, the relationship between project managers and HR departments can be quite toxic. The HR department often acts as agents of the project manager, neglecting the needs and grievances of engineers. This lack of support from HR can make engineers feel like disposable assets, which is not fair at all.
##The Role of Top Management
The root of this issue lies in the lack of leadership and care from top management. CEOs and top brass may not even be aware of the toxic dynamics happening in the middle management. It’s important for leaders to take notice and address these issues to create a more positive work environment for all employees.
##Taking Action
If you find yourself stuck in a toxic work environment, there are steps you can take to address the situation. Here are some actionable steps you can consider:
– Speak up about your concerns with your friends, family, or even on social media platforms like Reddit or Twitter.
– Document any instances of mistreatment or unfair practices.
– Consider reaching out to higher management or HR leadership to discuss your concerns.
– If all else fails, consider seeking opportunities at companies that prioritize employee well-being and respect.
##Making a Change
By speaking up about these issues and shedding light on the toxic nexus between project managers and HR departments, we can work towards creating a more positive work environment for all IT professionals. Remember, your voice matters and together, we can drive change in the industry.
So don’t lose hope, take action and advocate for a healthier workplace for yourself and your fellow engineers. Your career is valuable, and you deserve to work in a supportive and respectful environment. Let’s stand together and make a difference! 💪🏽🌟
so if I’m reading your post correctly, you say a company is toxic because HR sided with the company instead of you (the worker)?
yeah… all companies are toxic then
>I know the helplessness of facing this toxicity and yet not being able to do anything as the IT job is quite precious and there are hundreds ready to replace you if they ever lay you off.
yep if you consider that as toxicity then sorry the whole world is toxic to you, because sounds like you fundamentally don’t understand the purpose of HR (think: who does HR work for?)
>Programmers, Testers, etc. are treated just like *disposable assets* by them.
You figured it out. From the standpoint of the company, you will always be a resource that is to be exploited. HR is there to facilitate this, it was never meant to be on the side of the workers. Never be loyal to a company because the company will happily drop you as soon as you are no longer useful to them. HR may try to be friendly to you to extract some kind of information but don’t complain to them, they will probably use it against you later.
>Programmers, Testers, etc. are treated just like *disposable assets* by them.
and
>there are hundreds ready to replace you if they ever lay you off.
Seems they are somewhat justified in treating you as if you were replaceable, then?
>They acted almost exclusively as agents of the project manager.
It is literally in the name of that department: human *resources*.
And middle management only exists to keep low level concerns away from the higher ups.
Like…. what do you even expect, and how do you think a good company should work? For bonus points: How would such a company generate good profits, and benefit from their behavior?
I was hired to be a network architect by a major India based company.
I was never given the opportunity to succeed.
I was excluded from meetings, my boss then started belittling me saying in quiet undertones I didn’t know X product but the issue was I did and I hadn’t been given access to anything FOR MONTHS begging the team to give me work.
Eventually my coworkers stopped looping me in on emails until one of them accidentally did causing a fight because it showed the India based coworkers were responding ONLY to my boss or India only based coworkers not me, a US based coworker.
Eventually I was flagged as unresponsive AFTER I voiced to HR that I was being excluded on purpose.
I also highlighted my boss falsified my performance reports to make himself look good.
He also attempted to put me on a PIP which failed and locked us in a threat of suit for a while.
I guess they decided to eventually say fuck it and let me go and accept the risk. They say I abandoned my position and hadn’t had contact since basically October, but HR and I had emailed in November, December, and January.
I got paid throughout that time for doing nothing waiting for emails for SOMETHING to fucking do. Nothing came. I’d reply occasionally if looped on and nothing occured after and suddenly I’d be ripped from the loop.
Fuck them, I threw away my security clearance for the promise of my role getting moved to the UK and they burned me for access to the US market using an employment loop of X number people stateside.
Fuck them all.
It all begins with the terminology – people are termed “Resources”…
With this mindset, they think resources are interchangeable and dispensable.
It’s common worldwide.
Some large non-tech company (or government) wants a tech product. They hire a large tech contractor company and then have no idea what the contractor is doing. The contractor company doesn’t care as long as the stupid non-tech client keeps paying. The contractor plays politics, mismanages the SWEs and only produces lies and junk code. The non-tech company gets releases of its junk tech product that crashes, spews bad data and works in a degenerate way.
The world ends up with junk weapons systems, junk tax systems, junk airports, junk banking systems, junk consumer apps. The client and contractor are incompetent: they hire SWEs only for show and are happy to let SWE careers rot.
How’s a SWE supposed become good at SWE or have a SWE career in these cases? I don’t know except that SWEs should run away as far and as fast as they can and try to find a viable employer or situation.
You do know that HR is purely so the company doesn’t get sued. That’s it. They are not there to help you.
