Are you dealing with the frustrating situation of your elderly father making recurring donations to ActBlue via his PayPal credit card? 🤦♂️ If so, you’re not alone. Many families are facing similar challenges when it comes to managing finances and online donations for aging loved ones. Let’s explore some practical solutions to help you address this issue and bring peace of mind to you and your family.
## Understanding the Problem
It’s a tough situation to see your dad, who has always been passionate about politics, unknowingly making repeated donations to ActBlue due to his dementia. With the constant barrage of donation requests from various democratic candidates, it’s easy for him to get caught up in the moment and continue contributing without realizing the financial impact.
Even though you’ve managed to stop him from making new donations, the recurring payments are still going out each month, adding up to a significant expense over time. Contacting ActBlue directly hasn’t been helpful, as they directed you to a third-party service like Howly, which comes with additional fees.
So, how can you navigate this challenging situation and stop the recurring donations to ActBlue without incurring unnecessary expenses?
## Practical Solutions
Here are some actionable steps you can take to address the issue of your dad’s PayPal credit card donating to ActBlue:
### 1. Monitoring and Limiting Access
– Regularly check your father’s PayPal account for any suspicious recurring payments to ActBlue.
– Set up restrictions or alerts on his account to prevent further donations without your approval.
### 2. Contacting PayPal Customer Service
– Reach out to PayPal customer service and explain the situation to see if they can assist in stopping the recurring donations.
– Request to disable the automatic payment feature for ActBlue on your father’s account.
### 3. Seeking Legal Advice
– Consider consulting with a legal professional specializing in elder care and finance to explore legal options for stopping the donations.
– Review any legal documents or power of attorney that may allow you to take control of his financial decisions.
### 4. Educating Your Parent
– Have a heartfelt conversation with your father about the impact of his donations and the importance of managing finances responsibly.
– Provide alternative ways for him to support causes he cares about without relying on online donations.
## Conclusion
Dealing with an elderly parent’s PayPal credit card donating to ActBlue can be a challenging and emotionally draining experience. By taking proactive steps to monitor, communicate, and seek assistance, you can navigate this situation effectively and protect your loved one’s financial well-being. Remember, you’re not alone in facing these challenges, and reaching out for support from professionals and caregivers can make a significant difference. Stay resilient, and keep advocating for your parent’s best interests. 💪👴🔒🌟
Report the card lost/stolen to paypal.
How about just closing the card?
Might be a good time to consider *freezing* Father’s credit files.
I worked on an campaign that used ActBlue to fundraise for the candidate. It sounds like he pledged a reoccurring donation monthly. You can contact them via email and they can help you get it stopped. Its a legitimate company.
Have you tried checking to see if he has an Act Blue account? I have one and it’s pretty easy to stop recurring donations from there.
Is it the PayPal Mastercard or PayPal Credit – if PayPal Credit and you’re able to login to the PayPal account you can cancel. In the iOS app, click the hamburger botton top left > Manage Autopay and you can cancel it that way. It may or may not be set up this way with the PayPal MC.
Search ActBlue’s help site for steps on how to stop recurring contributions. I tried to link it here but my comment got removed.
If it’s PayPal, you can log in to the account, and cancel it there.
