Hey everyone! 👋
I could really use your advice. So, I just landed my first job three weeks ago, and honestly, it’s been a rough ride. 😩 Here’s the scoop:
- My boss seems to have a knack for belittling and mocking me. Honestly, it feels like no matter what I do, it’s never good enough.
- Money matters: I was told I’d be paid weekly, but here I am, three weeks in and still haven’t seen a dime. My boss promised payment last week, said he’d pay me this week… still nothing. 💸
- Hours are dropping: My shifts are getting fewer and shorter. I started with 4 shifts of 4 hours, then it went to 3 shifts of 3.5 hours, and now I’m down to just 2 shifts of 3 hours this week. It’s really disheartening.
- Emotional toll: I genuinely dread going into work. There have been times I’ve even cried after my shifts, and that’s not like me at all. I’m balancing this job with college, and I’m already feeling completely worn out.
So here I am, feeling stuck and unsure about what to do next. Have any of you gone through something similar?
🔍 Specific Questions:
- Have you ever dealt with a boss who makes you feel belittled? How did you handle it?
- What steps should I take if my boss keeps ignoring payment and cutting my hours?
I really appreciate any tips or experiences you can share! Let’s support each other. 😊 #WorkplaceIssues #FirstJobFears
Stop going to work. You will not get paid and your boss will continue to abuse you.
Find another job, NOW. You’re not getting paid. What is the business?
Stop in, ask when you’ll get paid, wait for them to cut a check, cash it immediatly at their bank.
If you don’t get paid, feel free to say loudly “Hey, you said you’d pay me weekly. In three weeks working, you still haven’t paid me. Are you about to go out of business?”
This is illegal, you need to report it to your local labor board and document your shifts and hours worked since starting. This is wage theft.
If you live in the United States contact your States labor board.
Find a different job.
Contact the Department of Labor in your state.
Go in and ask for pay. If he doesn’t have it, ask when he will. Do not work until he pays you OR dont go back once you have the money. Either way, you need a new job.
Regardless, I would file a complaint with the labor dept. Remember to always get things in writing so for now, keep up on communication and leaving a paper trail. No verbal agreements. And start looking for a new job.
Remember, do more work for free.
Quit
Report this wage theft to department of labor and state taxing agencies
Why haven’t you resigned?
Thus is an obvious scam
Department of labor, file for wage theft.
You should worry about yourself. The opinions of others family or not are irrelevant. This job isn’t useful anymore and neither is your disrespectful boss. Quit or remain abused for no good reason.
Tell the labor board of your state that you haven’t been paid. If you have documentation, use it.
Find a new job.
You’re a kid. Your parents should have your back here. I’ve stepped in for my daughter before with her first job and a wholly unreasonable, emotional and manipulative boss.
Quit. Apply to labor board for owed wages esp overtime. Let them sue the company for you. Show them your offer letter saying wage amount per hour, timecards of hours worked, and number of days not paid.
This is not normal, get a new job ASAP.
Go to your state’s department of labor website , and put in a report that you’re not being paid by the employer
Hey buddy, I can tell you’re quite young, and it’s the first time this is happening to you. Being in whales, it’s the same process as all of the UK. complain to him.
First, write a letter of a formal complaint mentioning everything. This is called a letter of grievance.
Then, once the letter is done. Go see him, hand him it, and say these words:
Hey boss man, I’m formally filing a grievance complaint to you for no pay. Considering you confirmed, I would be paid weekly. I’ve spoken to my nan and she’s quite disappointed. But as of today, I won’t be coming in, considering you haven’t paid me. Here’s a letter of complaint. I’ll be reaching out to ACAS in 4 weeks’ time if I have not heard back from you.
I can help you write the letter if you need. Just message me.
Just Google ACAS. What you’re looking to fill in is a form called early conciliation form. Fill this in a month’s time. If he has not replied to your grievance letter. Hopefully, they can also help get you some compensation for extra fees occurred to you during the time.he hasn’t paid you.
Why would you continue going to work if you aren’t getting paid?
Leave. Now. You are being mistreated. Do not put up with it.
I gather from your responses that you are relatively young. Do not allow people to take advantage of you. You will learn that they will keep pushing as far as they think they can. You must make a stand. Now.
Do not wait until the end of the week. Leave. Now.
I don’t work for free, and I NEVER let an employer fuck around with my pay. Op, I mean this in a kind way: you need to grow a backbone and stand up for yourself.
UPDATE
I went in to work tonight and got paid for my first week and I’ll get paid every week from now on
