The biggest takeaway I’ve gotten from my deep dives into personal health and productivity is that there are plenty of easy, yet scientifically-proven, methods to increase both your vitality and focus QUICKLY.
I’ve experimented with so many methods, and there are a lot of great ones, but the 3 below are the quickest and most potent methods that have worked for me. They are all things I now do daily and have a noticeable impact on my ability to focus and remain productive. And the best part is you can start implementing these TODAY!
**Take cold showers in the AM.**
Cold water exposure elevates dopamine levels in a sustainable way throughout the day. This results in an incredible increase in energy and motivation that’s hard to get elsewhere. Most people take warm showers, but you’re missing a great opportunity to start the morning off right by turning that knob to the right. Switch out those scalding showers for freezing ones!
**Get sunlight in the early morning hours.**
We’ve evolved to rise in the morning with the sun and it’s in our biology to take cues from it. Getting exposure to sunlight in the AM helps tell our body it’s time to RISE AND GRIND, setting our circadian rhythm and increasing cortisol. It will actually also help you sleep at night, so if you struggle in this area this is another benefit.
**Stop doomscrolling on your phone.**
This could be the single most poisonous habit that most of us engage in in 2024. Our phones are designed to overstimulate us with dopamine (the “motivator” chemical). Once you’re overstimulated, you basically have no motivation or energy to do anything else because our minds have evolved to look for the path of least resistance. This is why once you start doomscrolling it feels like your energy is just being zapped right from you. Get yourself a good screen time app – I use “Present Screen Time Control” because instead of app blocking it actually motivates you by turning staying off your phone into a game – but there are countless others out there. Find one that works for you.
These are all simple things that you can do TODAY to increase your productivity, motivation, and energy. However, these are by no means the only things that will help, and everyone is different. I’m constantly trying to find new protocols to help – do you do anything that helps you maintain your focus and energy? Share your own tips in the comments below!

While sunshine is in fact great, some vitamin d in the form of a pill or liquid is amazing. I’m not talking 100 MG, either. Don’t be surprised to find most North Americans have a vitamin d deficiency. It is actually important for many things, including healing. Its mixed as a supplement with calcium for good reason. I’m not a doctor, but my actual Dr prescribed this for me. I had depression for years that was pretty resistant to drugs. A lcsw I saw 9rdered a blood panel for me, and I was severely deficient in vitamin D. Like…take this rx for 10, 000 mgs . I had to take that for 10 days, then 4,000 afterwards. I’m telling you, it really helped a lot. I’m still low in vitamin D but not like I was. To no one’s surprise, several family members got tested after I did this and we ALL have critically low vitamin D. This answered so many questions about all of us.
If a cold shower could extend my life, I’d take an extra hot shower.
I’ll never tolerate cold.
nope. agree for the doomscrolling part tho.
I don’t care if cold showers gave me a full release, $100, and a slap on the ass on the way out. I’m not taking them.
