Hey there, I’m really sorry to hear about your situation. Losing a job can be a tough blow, especially when it’s been a stable part of your life for so many years. But hang in there, there are always options and opportunities out there waiting for you. 🌟
First of all, it’s important to remember that not having a degree doesn’t mean you’re not capable or talented. There are plenty of successful people out there who have built their careers without a college education. So don’t let that hold you back!
Here are some tips and ideas on how to navigate this challenging time and find your way forward:
### Reflect on Your Skills and Passions
– Take some time to think about what you’re good at and what you enjoy doing. Maybe there are certain skills or talents you have that could translate into a new career path.
– Consider any hobbies or interests that you’re passionate about. Sometimes turning your passion into a career can be incredibly fulfilling.
### Explore Different Industries
– Don’t limit yourself to the same industry you were in before. There are countless industries out there with diverse job opportunities.
– Research different fields and see if there are any that resonate with you. You might discover a hidden passion for something you never considered before.
### Consider Remote Work or Freelancing
– With the rise of remote work opportunities, you might find that there are roles you can do from the comfort of your own home.
– Freelancing is another option to explore, as it allows you to work on a project basis and build up your experience and portfolio.
### Upskill and Learn New Things
– Just because you don’t have a degree doesn’t mean you can’t continue to learn and grow. There are plenty of online courses and resources available that can help you expand your knowledge and skills.
– Look into free or affordable courses in areas that interest you or that are in demand in the job market.
### Networking and Seeking Support
– Reach out to your contacts and let them know you’re looking for new opportunities. Networking can open doors and connect you to potential job leads.
– Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice. There are people out there willing to support and guide you through this transition.
### Ways to Make Quick Money
– Consider temporary or part-time work to help you stay afloat while you’re job searching. Retail, hospitality, and customer service roles can be good options for quick income.
– You could also explore gig economy platforms like Uber, TaskRabbit, or Upwork for short-term gigs that can bring in some extra cash.

Im so sorry that I cant actively advice or do anything to make you feel better. But i am praying for you, may you flourish from this with a better life 💜
File for unemployment immediately.
Pay to get your resume done, and start applying for every job in your field. Consider ride share apps to help offset the lost income.
If you feel open to it, this could be a great time to go back to school. I’m shifting into healthcare at 28 and the options are so much better than in my industry, even with just a two-year degree. There are options out there that could more or less guarantee you long-term stability if you’re interested in getting a degree
File for unemployment
Do rideshare apps in meanwhile
Sounds like you may want to get into therapy
I’m so sorry that you’re going through this.. I hope you can find the strength to keep pushing, because your animals need their mom to be strong.
As other mentioned, unemployment needs to be your first priority. Second, it might seem like a step down from your management position but you need to find any job to will pay your bills while you look for better opportunities. That is your next priority right after getting unemployment. Once you have a job, maybe you can spend some time upskilling. Are there any 1 to 2 year continuing studies programs on your area? They usually provide some job resources too along with the tuition.
I can’t imagine how hard it must be right now. Im really rooting for you to pull through!
Amazon Fulfillment center will hire you quickly. Looks like you’re in AZ, there is a bunch there!
Im in a very similar position. Same age, and I recently got made redundant from the only job I’ve ever had for 11 years straight out of school. I have zero real skills as my job was really just a menial thing I hung onto for so long because I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and similarly had mental health issues and just wanted to “live”.
I can only really speak to what I’m doing in the same position, please don’t consider it 1:1 advice for you in yours. I’ve picked up a part time job, moved back in with my parent and I’m using my savings to study up on the side. I’m basically living the college days I never did given I left school straight into work at 18. I’ve picked a career that’s a little bit easier for someone my age to retrain into (bricklaying/construction, in the UK it’s in critical demand) and I’ve just been practical with my choice, not aiming to be a doctor or anything.
I’m keeping my costs low and living within my means as best I can. It’s not easy, but I’ve actually been in a really good mental state as compared to years past since I feel like I’m actually going -somewhere-
I guess the main takeaway from anything I’m trying to say is, 29 isn’t that old. You can still totally do new stuff. And since you were in a managerial position already, you’ve actually got experience on your side you can absolutely leverage if you just want to look for something like what you already had before. You just have to be persistent and keep your eyes out for those job opportunities. Make it a daily habit to check the listings and maybe take on something less desirable as a means right now.
Hope you figure it out even if what I’ve said here is useless. I know what the uncertainty of losing your job feels like when it’s all you’ve known for so long. But there’s a lot of people going through the same, you aren’t alone in it.
APPLY ANYWAYS: experience matters more than a degree, trust that. Apply to any manager jobs avl in your area. Every one of them. Fake it till you make it, smile and be friendly. You got this.
Start from scratch, the filmmaking community is a perfect place to start a new career as it is meant for the outcasts of the world and those who have been in pain, you can translate that into beautiful work, I just suggest filmmaking because it’s what saved me
> I feel incompetent. I’m not driven. I’m not personable. I’m not educated.
Bullshit. You managed to survive a toxic work environment for 7 fucking years in a management position. That takes competence, drive, and people skills, no matter how much you deny it. Who says education is only about formal degrees? Isn’t life the toughest educator out there?
> I see so many people my age getting married, buying homes, having children, taking extravagant vacations.
So fucking what? Comparing your behind-the-scenes chaos with someone else’s highlight reel is a trap. Why do you assume their lives are any better than yours in the grand scheme of things?
> Any tips on types of jobs to look for or where to go from here?
Start by valuing your damn experience. You’ve got management skills – that’s gold. Look for roles where your experience trumps formal education. Ever thought about leveraging your experience in consulting, or a startup that values real-world knowledge over degrees?
> Ways to make quick money while I’m applying places and job searching?
Freelancing, consulting, even temp work can be good stop-gaps. Ever considered using your skills in a freelance capacity?
Now, why do you believe you need a degree to be successful? Can you identify one fucking thing you’re genuinely good at or interested in, that you could turn into a career path?
I’m 28M with no degree and same survival mindset that led me to not getting a degree. I’m working a stable job now. I feel how messed my life would be if I lose this. Lmk if there’s any way I can help you apply or look for other jobs. Keeping your mind occupied w work is not bad, coz I know that it could go south real quick without structure.
Do you WANT a degree? Plenty of options if you don’t, even if it feels rough. It’s never too late, whichever path you choose.
From your post I’m not sure what option, if any, you’re hoping for. Follow what you want (while being reasonably responsible, with finances etc).
Stop saying I’m not this I’m not that. Change your thoughts and you will change your life. Affirmations. Visualize. See your dream and feel every moment in real time as if you already have it, because you do. Know it’s yours because it can be. It is yours. Manifest that shit. Quantum jump. Meditate and see it in your minds eye. Your thoughts, and perceptions create your reality. Losing a toxic job that was holding you back was likely the universe giving you an avenue to a higher version of yourself. Do not shy away.
I have no advice, im so sorry, but if you need to talk to someone, I’m here.🩷
I don’t know what to say. But if you wanna talk I’m here too.
Ok I keep seeing people saying you don’t need a degree and what not to succeed. This isn’t the old markets. This isn’t 15 years or longer ago. No one is going to give you an interview in a legitimate white collar career unless you have a degree. These jobs have thousands of applicants within the first week. They filter by education first. Unless your senior level in your career with no degree then it’s highly unlikely you will land an entry level career job.
I don’t have a degree and even I know the importance of having one now in todays market. The barrier for entry is insane now.. what was possible before is unlikely now.
I keep seeing people telling others don’t go to college, it’s a lie, you’ll be in debt. Look.. don’t pursue a degree in something stupid.
OP 29 is young! Go get educated. Go to community college. Get started asap. You can be 33 yrs old with a bachelors, starting your professional career and be in a really good place by then. Don’t waste anymore time.
Just say you have a degree. Nobody actually checks it unless you said you were in a specialized field. If I had know this before I got my degree I would’ve just lied to any employer and never done the years of useless work.
A degree certainly opens up doors to give you more income potential but it heavily depends on your goal. It also needs to align with your values, interests and talents so it becomes easy for your mental health and finances since a degree is frickin expensive and mentally draining. Perhaps gaining contact with an academic advisor in your local Community College will help. You can both hash things out and figure out where you can go with your life from here.
Talking specifics blue collar work is great but it has it’s downsides. The work is punishing and the hours are long. Make sure you get adequate nutrition, exercise and sleep if you want to maintain the health of your body in this field. Its non negotiable for your body especially if you get past your 30s and later on.
If you wanna earn past the 100k mark then you need to either pursue a heavily specialized field like Auerospace Engineering or Bankinh. Several companies like Lockheed Martin and SAAB are hiring and they provide perks like a health plan, stock options and flexible hours. A B. Commerce degree helps too since you’re most likely going go work for a large bank and you can earn a lot doing very little work.
