Feeling the IT job hunt blues? 🤦♂️ Join the club! It’s like we’re all stuck in this never-ending cycle of applications, interviews, and waiting. But hey, where’s the light at the end of this tunnel? 🌟
Here are some thoughts on the current state of the IT job market and how to navigate through the maze:
– Is the IT job market saturated or is it just a struggle for new graduates like us?
– Why does it feel like every job requires years of experience that we just don’t have yet?
– Are those “boot-camp” programs and certifications really worth it, or are they just another sales pitch?
While it may seem like a daunting task, there are some practical steps you can take to boost your chances of landing that first IT job:
– Networking is key! Reach out to professionals in the field, attend career fairs, and connect on LinkedIn to expand your contacts 💼
– Tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight your relevant skills and experiences for each job application 📄
– Consider internships or volunteer opportunities to gain real-world experience and make valuable connections in the industry 🤝
Hang in there, fellow IT job seekers! We’re all in this together, and with a bit of perseverance and strategic planning, we can navigate our way through this crazy job market and find the light at the end of the tunnel. 🚀 What’s your take on this? Let’s hear your thoughts and experiences!
What does your resume look like and what roles are you applying for?
I started in the industry in 2017 after graduating with a bachelors. The market was better back then but I still had to accept a pretty trash help desk position just to get started getting some experience.
The only advice I have is just to leverage your network for a referral if possible and be prepared to settle for a crap job for the sake of experience. You don’t have to stay there forever.
Avoid bootcamps like the plague, most are just money grabs
It’s saturated and only senior & fullstack roles are hot at the moment in South Africa.
I’m looking for a way out. The interviews I have been to have been so bad faith with ridiculous trivia and expectations that it doesn’t seem like I will ever get another job and I am stuck in my job. It honestly seems like these jobs are acting this way cuz they have too many applicants and can be as insanely picky as they want and the totally over saturated industry comments are correct. I honestly cannot keep doing this 3 or 4 interviews with insane trivia for shitty dead end jobs bullshit. My sisters boyfriend is an electrician and the interview for the job is usually a 10 minute phone call lmao.
Getting a first job in a field you don’t have direct experience is always tough although an rockier economy makes that even tougher as you’re increasingly competing not only against those trying to get entry level jobs, but against those with years of experience desperate to find another job.
