ππ‘ Neighbour regrets stealing electricity from electrician π‘β‘
Have you ever experienced a situation where a neighbor crossed the line and took advantage of something they shouldn’t have? Well, one electrician found himself in a similar predicament when his neighbor decided to help himself to some free electricity without asking for permission first.
As a master electrician, I take my work and my resources very seriously. So when I discovered that my neighbor was using the outside outlet on my detached garage to power his addition without my consent, I knew I had to put a stop to it. Here’s how I dealt with the situation and taught my neighbor a valuable lesson in the process.
Understanding the Situation: The Neighbor’s Unauthorized Use of Electricity
It all started when I noticed unusual activity around my detached garage. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that my neighbor had connected his power tools to the outside outlet on my property. This not only caught me off guard, but it also raised several concerns, including safety hazards, potential damage to my electrical system, and the unauthorized use of my resources.
Confrontation and Ignored Requests
I approached my neighbor and kindly asked him to stop using my electricity without permission. However, to my dismay, my requests fell on deaf ears as he continued to help himself to the power source without any consideration for my concerns.
Taking Matters into My Own Hands: An Electrician’s Revenge
As a master electrician, I knew I had the expertise to handle the situation in a way that would put an end to my neighbor’s unauthorized use of my electricity. Here’s what I did:
Rewiring the Outlet: I decided to take a proactive approach by rewiring the neutral on the 120-volt outlet to convert it to 240 volts. This strategic move would not only prevent my neighbor from using the electricity but also serve as a deterrent to future attempts.
Witnessing the Consequences: True to my expectations, my neighbor unknowingly used the modified outlet and ended up burning up his table saw, battery charger, and table router β all within a single day. While I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction, I also knew that this experience could have been avoided if my neighbor had simply asked for permission.
Addressing Legal Concerns: The Aftermath of My Revenge
After implementing my “fix” and witnessing the consequences, I did face some potential legal implications that needed to be addressed. Here’s what transpired:
Disclosure to the Neighbor: A few days after the incident, I decided to disclose to my neighbor what I had done. This act of transparency was met with a less-than-pleasant reaction, and my neighbor ultimately decided to involve law enforcement.
Involvement of Law Enforcement: The sheriff’s office was called to mediate the situation. However, to my surprise, the deputy who arrived listened to both sides and even asked me if I wanted to charge my neighbor with theft. Despite this opportunity, I decided to let the matter drop, and my neighbor eventually moved out shortly after.
Lessons Learned: Communication, Consent, and Respect for Property Rights
In hindsight, this entire ordeal taught me valuable lessons about the importance of communication, consent, and mutual respect for property rights. While I may have taken a drastic approach to address the issue, I believe that my neighbor’s unauthorized use of my electricity could have been prevented if only he had approached me with a simple request.
Ultimately, this experience serves as a reminder that open communication and respect for boundaries are crucial in maintaining positive relationships with neighbors and ensuring that everyone’s rights and resources are respected.
In conclusion, the story of my neighbor’s regret for stealing electricity from me not only sheds light on the importance of property rights and communication but also serves as a cautionary tale for anyone who may consider taking advantage of their neighbor’s resources without permission.

What audacityβ¦. Even after being asked to stop.
Nice fix, wherever OP may be!
We had to shut off water to the front of our townhouse. Neighbor’s kid used the water to play in all the time and would leave it running. The bill literally doubled. We still don’t know if the neighbor ever turned theirs on for the poor kid to use.
You simply made it unsuitable for the task at hand; he sallied forth, regardless.
What a sizzling revenge
i love that the deputy asked you if you wanted to press charges for theft. thatβs a double petty revenge!
This post is so shocking
Neighbor building an addition and moved away a short time later. I think someone on Quora was pulling your chain.
Thatβs some Solomon level adjudication on the deputyβs part.
I smell BS.
βI turned the breaker off – He turned it onβ?????
How does that work? Did you give him access to your house in order to flip the switch?
βAs a master electricianβ I rewired the neutral? What does that even mean???
I think you need to do more than that to convert it to 240v.
Years ago I did electrical work and I always thought it was cool that all the other trades on the site knew not to piss off the electricians with loud crappy music on their radios. If they did, suddenly the radio would get really loud for a second and thenβ¦.poof.
You should have told the cop yes. In fact, you should have called the police from the very beginning. Theft of electricity is a felon in the USA.
Sounds like a well grounded story to me ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
Sorry. I should have re-fused to write that.
Glad in your area it was not a crime. In many it is. Glad you did not kill or hurt anyone or cause severe property damage that lead to someone else you did not intend to harm getting hurt. That would have opened you up to liability.
my neighbor use to use my wife when I left for work each day so I gave her herpes ha I got the last laugh.
How much would you have charged him to just use it?
People steal because they are deprived of resources. They got nothing. Now you took away his only means of making money using his tools to build homes and provide. It was wrong for him to steal from you yes but what you did was way worse. That table could have been a machine to help build homes for the homeless. You donβt even know. But you made your decision.
This is crazy us stuff with their crazy power
