🌟 Don’t Say You’re Going to Do Something and Then Not Do It 🌟
Have you ever been in a situation where someone promises to do something, but then falls short when it comes time to deliver? It can be frustrating and disappointing, especially when it involves teamwork and collaboration. In this story, we’ll explore the importance of following through on commitments and the impact it can have on others.
## The Model United Nations Experience
### A Thank You Card Tradition
Went to a Model United Nations with the debate club when I was in school. The teacher who led the club gave up his weekend to take us, so a thank you card was inevitable, and I was the only one organized enough to get it done.
### The Promise to Sign
Brought the card in on the last day, all positive reactions, got a bunch of signatures just on the train to the venue. One of the girls made a bit of a show of saying she’d sign it later when she had more time. It was a bit odd, we weren’t doing anything on the train and it only would’ve taken her five seconds.
### The Repeated Excuses
But if she didn’t want to do it at that moment, I wasn’t going to force her. But then I asked her again at lunch, and got the same excuse. I asked again at the end of the day when we were sitting around waiting to be dismissed, explaining that I needed to give him the card soon and this was her last chance, same excuse. I was fed up by now.
### Taking Matters Into My Own Hands
I’d initially planned to give him the card privately at school the next day, but one of the others who was oblivious to the whole thing said I should present it to him in front of everyone while we were waiting for the train home instead. I played along, knowing how much it would annoy the girl, and did just that.
### The Priceless Reaction
The look on her face when she realized I’d given him the card without her signature was priceless. I think she wanted to start an argument with me but remembered not to be an idiot in the middle of a train station.
## The Lesson Learned
In this story, the importance of keeping your word and following through on commitments is clear. When you say you’re going to do something, it’s important to honor that promise, especially when it involves teamwork and collaboration.
### Key Takeaways:
1. **Communication is Key**: If you’re unable to fulfill a promise, communicate it early on rather than making excuses.
2. **Respect Others’ Time**: Remember that your actions (or lack thereof) can impact others and their plans.
3. **Accountability Matters**: Take responsibility for your commitments and strive to follow through on them.
By being mindful of these principles, you can build trust, reliability, and respect among your peers and collaborators. Remember, actions speak louder than words, so let your follow-through demonstrate your commitment to excellence.
So the next time you say you’re going to do something, make sure you follow through. Your integrity and reputation depend on it. And who knows, you might just make someone’s day with a simple signature on a thank you card.
Keep shining bright and honoring your commitments! ✨ #FollowThrough #Integrity #Teamwork
Genuinely, I wonder what her endgame was…
Plot twist; the teacher doesn’t care who’s signature is on it.
