**Tit for tat, puppy edition 🐶**
If you’ve ever found yourself in a situation of playful revenge or sweet retribution with your significant other, then you’re not alone. 🤣 In the spirit of tit for tat, my friend recently shared his own tale of getting a puppy that was sparked by a lighthearted promise from his wife. Let me tell you all about this adorable and heartwarming puppy edition of tit for tat!

### The Backstory 🐾
Over a decade ago, my friend expressed his desire for a hunting dog to his wife. He had a specific breed in mind and wanted to be involved in the selection process. Christmas rolled around, and there was a bit of tension in the air as his wife surprised him with a sweet non-hunting dog instead. 🎁 Despite the mismatch in expectations, my friend accepted the gift with good humor, albeit with a hint of resignation.
### The Unexpected Twist 🐕
Fast forward to a couple of months ago, and my friend dropped a bombshell – he had gotten a puppy! With a mischievous grin, he revealed that his decision was influenced by a casual remark made by his wife some time back. She had offhandedly mentioned that once their old dog crossed the rainbow bridge, she was done with pets due to the endless shedding and paw prints. And so, seizing the opportunity presented to him, my friend went ahead and brought home a furry bundle of joy! 🐾
### Clarification 🐶
Before you jump to conclusions, let me clarify that the addition of the puppy to their family wasn’t solely driven by a desire for payback. Both dogs, old and new, are cherished members of their household and receive plenty of love and care. The decision to welcome a new furry friend was more of an incentive rather than an act of retaliation.
### The Subtle Art of Tit for Tat 🐾
When it comes to playful tit for tat moments in relationships, it’s all about finding the perfect balance between humor and affection. The puppy edition of this age-old dynamic is a prime example of how a simple remark can lead to unexpected outcomes that bring joy and laughter into our lives. Here are a few key takeaways from this tale of canine tit for tat:
1. **Communication is Key**: Sometimes, a casual comment can plant a seed for future actions. Make sure to communicate openly and clearly with your partner to avoid any unintended consequences.
2. **Embrace Spontaneity**: Life is full of surprises, and sometimes the best decisions are made in the spur of the moment. Embrace spontaneity and be open to new possibilities that come your way.
3. **Celebrate Differences**: While my friend and his wife had different preferences when it came to pets, they found a way to celebrate their individual tastes by loving both dogs equally. Embracing each other’s differences is key to a harmonious relationship.
4. **Find Joy in the Unexpected**: The puppy edition of tit for tat brought unexpected joy and excitement into my friend’s life. Sometimes, the most memorable moments are those that catch us by surprise.

Another puppy? Are you kitten me?
Sounds like my dad. As soon as my folks dog dies, he goes out and buys another. And not just any dog, it has to be pure bred, which are a lot more prone to having health problems (in general). I said to mum after they got their last puppy earlier this month that I didn’t know why dad didn’t just adopt a rescue. Mix breed dogs, while they can still have health problems associated with one of the breeds in their mix, are less seceptible to having health problems than pure bred dogs.
Mum is the opposite. When my folks cats pass away, mum can’t just go out and get a new cat right away, and I’m the same. We need time to grieve the loss of our fur babies. After my last cat passed away in 2017, it was a good 6 months before I was ready to adopt another cat, and when I did, I adopted a rescue from the SPCA (yes, it was a bit of a cost up front, but when I adopted her, they’d made sure she’d fully recoved from cat flu (I keep up with her jabs to stop a reoccurance), was fixed, had her first jab, was microchipped, and had had a flea and worm treatment). Mum’s cat passed away late last year (he was 17), and she’s still not ready for a new cat. She says maybe when she retires (she just turned retirement age, but is still working while her health can handle it)
“once this old dog passes, I’m done with pets.” – are you sure she was talking about the animal? 😉
