Hey there, fellow aspiring private equity professionals! ๐๐ผ
So, I came across this D1 football player’s resume looking to break into the world of private equity, and let me tell you, there’s definitely room for improvement. Here are a few things that stood out to me:
– Graduating in December and just starting to network for summer 2025? That might be cutting it a bit close in terms of timing.
– .7 meaningful calls a day is a start, but maybe try to up that number a bit to really make a lasting impression.
– Leveraging school and football alumni networks is great, but don’t forget to expand your reach beyond those circles.
– Backdoor entry strategies can be tricky, so make sure you’re approaching it strategically and professionally.
Possible Solution:
– Try to increase the number of meaningful calls per day to build a stronger network.
– Consider attending networking events or reaching out to professionals in the industry for informational interviews.
– Focus on highlighting transferable skills from your football career that would make you a valuable asset in private equity.
Remember, it’s never too late to start making connections and honing your skills for a successful career transition. Keep pushing forward and learning from each interaction. Good luck! ๐ #CareerDevelopment #NetworkingTips #PrivateEquityCareers
Delete โuplifting athletesโ, add that as an interest like volunteer work or something. Add more details on your most recent experiences. Quantify where you can like did DCF for potential xMM acquisition. Be more specific instead of saying prepared reports or developed pitches, what was the report about? What industries/types of companies did you pitch? How many pitches? Etcโฆ delete your work history, itโs not relevant
why are you not recruiting full time 2025 which is ongoing instead of summer 2025 which is over for p much all good analyst programs?
This is going to sound harsh but you have absolutely no chance of getting into private equity. The majority of stellar 3.9/4.0 multiple high profile internship students have to do 2 years as an IB to have a chance to get into PE. Aim for something that can be achieved.
I think you’re skipping a step. You’re more likely to get into a banking program, albeit your GPA is low, but obviously being a starter on D-1 team is a plus and should open the door. It’s up to you to walk in and impress them at that point. I say banking first because whatever you think you know about finance today is woefully incomplete, and PE is generally not a place that trains people.
Fix year error at football date. Says June 202
It looks like youโre trying to go straight from internships to private equity. Thatโs not how it works 99% of the time. Get an investment banking job first.
What conference?
Just find some alumni or some fanboy from your university.
Does being a D1 football player help with job searching? I shouldโve leveraged that lol
Donโt listen to people who say no chance theyโre bitter and lack perspective
You donโt want private equity
Spam as many small and midsized investment banks until you find one that takes you
Analyst is the most junior rank at a bank; โanalyst programโ itโs the same
Comments youโve made in other responses make me think you need to do a good amount of prep in knowing the landscape, role, etc.
Being a banking analyst is literally a mental toughness game and a little bit of four function math on a big spreadsheetโthe elitism in some of these comments is absurd, youโre plenty qualified. Most of โprivate equityโ is getting mistrusting business owners not based in an urban metro to trust youโre not fucking them over.
Donโt get discouraged if you truly feel this is what you want to do, but I think you need to learn a bit more about it before feeling confident enough to pound the table in the interview convincingly enough and say this is your calling
Interests – remove networking (this sounds like bollocks) and be more specific than just “sports”
Maybe add some extra detail, eg what industry did you perform market research on?
hopefully obvious from the non-anonymized version that you are advocating for the people who have rare diseases rather than the diseases.
definitely high-level athletes are asked to execute on a plan under duress in a way that most students are not.
Networking being an interest is killing me๐คฃ
Good advice here but hereโs a mechanical one – you have periods ending some bullet points but not others. Pls fix
ETA: investment banking -> PE is your route and even then you are behind your peers so saddle up
Bro ur resume says “retailer” or something more than “pro football player”
