🚨 #WorkIssue #BossTroubles #IncidentReport
Hey everyone! 👋 I need your advice on a situation that happened between me and my boss at work. Here’s the scoop:
So, my boss and I work together doing inspections and sampling of wastewater. He’s not the easiest to work with – super introverted, doesn’t trust me, micromanages without guidance, and well… he’s not exactly my biggest fan. 🙄
Last week, we were out sampling raw sewer water and I had a little accident – a glass vial broke, shard cut my hand, and I couldn’t find a first aid kit. Luckily, some kind people helped me out with some supplies.
Now here’s the kicker – before I could even submit an incident report, my boss beat me to the punch… and he lied! He said I wasn’t wearing gloves, which is totally false. 😠 I had to set the record straight and submit my own report with the truth.
Question: Should I confront my boss about this? I’m really steamed about it! 🤬
Possible Solution:
– Approach your boss in a calm and professional manner
– Share your side of the story and the importance of honesty in incident reports
– Discuss the need for first aid kits in company vehicles to prevent future issues
What do you think I should do? Any advice is welcome! Let’s chat. 💬 #WorkDrama #ProfessionalEtiquette #Teamwork101
I would talk to his boss about this. This is an integrity issue now. He LIED on an official report of a workplace accident. If you do get something from this you’ll be ‘blamed’ for not wearing gloves if they believe him. This is not the truth and your boss knows it.
You can lie at home but don’t do it at work.
Make sure you have back up. Like the people who helped you saw you were wearing gloves etc.
Sounds like a dysfunctional situation. Move to another dept/supervisor or another firm.
You have the broken glove? Confront him about lying with your phone on record secretly
go up the chain if necessary. He’s trying to set you up. If his version is believed the company now has cause to blame you for the accident.
You need to not only confront boss, but also to take this to both his boss and HR. This is likely an OSHA violation, among other things, as it is the intentional misrepresentation of a workplace accident.
ALSO – do not mince any words in your report. He was present, had actual knowledge of the facts and attempted to file a false report that could expose the organization to legal liability. I suspect the lack of an immediately available 1st aid kit is also a violation and something for which the boss is responsible.
Face it, you are now a marked man at work and the boss will be looking to get rid of you. This is your chance to lay a foundation for wrongful / retaliatory discharge, especially if this incident has to be reported to some regulatory agency and THEY see an OSHA or other violation. Lose the leverage now and it will be gone forever.
The other thing – if you don’t refute this report, you are officially on record as the responsible party. Combine that with the boss’s dislike for you and the other things you mention, and this could impact your future career.
If there’s anyone from the other company that you can get contact info from get that info!!
You want independent verification you can point HR and your boss’s boss to that supports your account.
I’d also (if you haven’t already) go to urgent care and speak to an employment attorney. It’s worth the minimal consultation fee.
Keep your pierced glove as evidence you were wearing PPE. Do not give them the glove or it will “disappear.”
You don’t take that to your boss who lied about it you take that to the safety manager, and their bosses, and HR. And you keep all your own meticulous records about everything and everyone you talk to about this in case you suddenly get thrown under a speeding bus. If you think it might have been an innocent mistake, maybe confront your boss.
Be careful. Management that lies commonly does it because they know the people above them will not care. Management protects management.
Him saying you weren’t using required ppe could be an issue for work comp. Then again if he’s dumb enough to say you weren’t ask him if you want to report no ppe provided. That’s even bigger for work comp cases. You got hepatitis testing and went to an emergency room, right?
Do not confront your boss. You make a report to your local OSHA office.
Don’t confront the boss, go to HR and his boss. Lying about things like this is not okay as it makes it appear like you were negligent.
Why would he lie about this?
Save the actual gloves that were cut through and submit them as evidence. Suggest that the company needs to provide gloves with a higher cut resistance.
If the workers comp insurance hears that you were not wearing gloves, they can deny your claim and you will be on your own
