“Got into a car accident on the way to my final job interview – what should I do? #caraccident #jobinterviewtips”
Should I reschedule or inform the company?
Do I need to mention the accident?
Update: Tried calling and emailing, but no response. Surprisingly, the job was commission-based anyway.
Just be honest with them and ask them to reschedule. You have a very strong excuse.
>Would I need to tell them I got in a car accident?
Of course. Best excuse possible, especially if you’re not hurt.
Tell them the truth: on your way to the interview, you got into a car accident.
Tell them the truth. Ask for a copy of the police report to give the interviewer if they want proof.
Tell them the truth, take a picture and send it to them.
The reason I say this is as a Recruiter, the amount of times I’ve had people “get into car accidents”, You would think nobody would ever be able to ride down the road without getting into an accident.
There are 2 things that always make both Recruiters and employers question things. Car accident, And deaths in the family. I had one person who worked for us who had his father die twice in the same year lol. I’ve never asked for proof of something like that until that happened. Turns out the guy was just going on vacation and wanted To make sure he got paid the day he was off.
Unfortunately, the car accident excuse has jaded most recruiters so just provide a picture
Take an Uber there..will def show dedication
Pro tip: keep photos of car accidents or no internet connection due to power outage just in case
Call and explain. I once got a flat tire in a rental car on the way to an interview, and got stuck in the worst rainstorm I’ve ever seen. Walked into the CFOs office over two hours late, and so wet I left puddles around my chair.
Got the job.
I don’t see the point in lying. If they don’t want to hire you because of this, why would you want to work there? Sounds like they’d question (or give you a hard time) every time you put in for PTO.
Just tell them what happened. Either they’ll understand and reschedule, or they won’t and you’ll have dodged a particularly toxic bullet.
Just call them and tell them what happened. You don’t HAVE to tell them you got in an accident, but why wouldn’t you? It’s a very legitimate reason for not making it to the interview, and shit happens. I would say that if you don’t tell them about the accident and you tried to explain why you didn’t make it to an interview in a different way, you most likely won’t get another interview and won’t be hired. Any decent employer will understand when you tell them what happened and likely give an opportunity to reschedule the interview at another day/time.
Legally and morally speaking, you must remain on-scene. I’d say this is pretty explainable and (should be considered) forgivable.
I actually had the same issue happen to me years back. And like many of the other responders, you should just call them, and explain what happened.
If you really wanted the opportunity with that company, then communicating with them, and asking for another chance is your best shot now, and in the future.
100% commission based always sounds like a scam. Just work for yourself if you only get paid when you can bring work in.
100% commission based salary… Fuck that noise. You were about to show up to a large group interview process 100% guarantee.
100% commission haha 😬 fate did you a solid
what? u got into an accident for this interview and its ok? if u refused the interview, then u would not be in that accident.
HR rep: If you really wanted the job, you’d of waited to get into the accident until after the interview.
Anyone that is mad you got plowed into and missed the alotred time, you don’t want to work for.
Especially with you calling and emailing.
“I’m in a car accident. Cannot make the interview.”
After reading the comments, I’d like to know why a person who’s actively seeking a job make up a lie of a car accident on the day of interview?
Tell them you spotted big foot crossing the road so you went into beast mode and wrestled it to the ground. Big foot pummeled the shit out of you and took the biggest dump on your face and as you opened your mouth, you swallowed shit.
Thats all you have to say. Thats more believable than getting into a car accident. SMH
>the job was 100% commission based salary.
Don’t worry the position is still open. Those types of jobs are always open lol
