“Should I Quit My Door-to-Door Sales Job After One Day? #jobs #smallwoman #safety
Have you ever started a new job only to realize it wasn’t what you expected? That’s exactly what happened to me when I started a new job selling door-to-door. Despite needing the income, I felt overwhelmed and unsafe due to my small stature. Should I listen to my gut and quit, or stick it out for the paycheck? Here’s my story:
Feeling Uncomfortable:
– As a very small woman, I felt out of place knocking on doors until 7pm every day.
– The looks I received from people answering the door made me feel uneasy and unsafe.
– Even the trainer’s late-night calls added to my stress and discomfort.
Considering My Options:
– Despite needing the income, my gut instinct tells me to quit.
– My partner advised me to find a safer job that suits me better.
– Should I prioritize my safety and well-being over financial stability?
What would you do in my shoes?”
Door to door? Do companies still do that? What did you sell?
Sorry to hear. I hope something better comes for you. Keep your head up.
You accidentally replied to one of those scam job postings and ended up on people’s doorsteps. I know how it is, when you’re desperate for a job after awhile you start applying to stuff or showing up for interviews to just ANYthing.
Your partner wasn’t wrong, sounds like a dangerous job for ANYbody, much less a woman.
My story: I quit a job just shy of a week in, because I applied for a “Legal Assistant” position and it turns out it was a role as a *bill collector*. During training they were telling us how many times it was legally okay to call people about their debts before it was considered “harassment” legally, what to do if you call someone on the phone and they threaten to harm themselves, etc. It didn’t feel right. Not all money is good money. My younger sister was angry at me for quitting, but she wasn’t going to be the one having to bully people over back bills that, if they could’ve afforded to pay them, they would have.
I almost ended up being part of a pyramid scheme once when I was desperately trying to leave a job. I mean I walked out but still we all end up in weird gimmicks sometimes. I’m curious about the people that stick with those honestly.
I quit a job after a day too, if it’s not a right fit it’s not a right fit
Oh gosh was it a devils corps? The ones where they have you and your coworkers in a big circle before you guys are supposed to make a “pitch”?
I applied to a job once, showed up to the “interview” at 9am and was put in a large room with like 12 other people. Already knew it must be an mlm or some door to door bullshit but the first thing they told us was free pizza at noon so I hung out, ate my fill and just left without saying anything. They actually sent a guy after me who was like “where you going man? This is a great opportunity” I literally told him to just not waste his time and he turned around on a dime and went back inside. Crazy.
Door to door nowadays is based on who recently bought a house because that is public data.
Companies acquire this data and send chumps like me to intimidate you into buying. Or gas light you.
For example “hello home owner, I’m glad I was able to make our appointment”
“I don’t have an appointment with you”
“Oh that’s fine, it’s in your closing paperwork that we stop by today”
Which leads to the sales pitch.
It’s scumbag POS tactics like this that disarm good ppl.
Never answer the door for a salesmen or for renewal for Anderson. I had a client almost assaulted by their salesmen who screamed “I’m giving you a fucking experience!!!” While I. Their home and aggressively moving around.
Don’t trust sales ppl. They aren’t humans.
What year is it? LMAO
Great example of how ”scam” is a spectrum. Pyramid schemes and all commission door to door bait and switches, done a certain way, are legal, but only just, and they’re probably doing some other illegal things too.
Good on you for getting out before they run you dry! Don’t be embarrassed to talk about it either. You will probably save at least one friend of a friend a lot of grief.
In college I made it through half a training to convince people to enroll in an ITT Tech-like unaccredited associate’s program. The instructor bragged about his incredible academic resume and achievements, including being a licensed pilot.
He was missing most of his front teeth.
This is a scam job. Be happy that you didn’t waste more time there long enough to actually scam someone
I fell into one of these before. The interviewer is a fast talking slick son of a birch and they take anyone. Signed the paper work to start, found out we would be doing door to door sales, nope’d the F outta there that same hour.
I did CUTCO in college lol. I feel like it’s kinda similar except it wasn’t door to door. Instead we were cold calling and that in turn ended up going to random peoples homes to do demos that I didn’t even know… I left that job after after a few weeks and I still get icks from the guy who trained me. I will admit, the knives are pretty good. I still have the ones that I got from when I was employed lol.
