Hey everyone! 🎉 I just landed a new corporate job after being laid off earlier this year, and I’m set to start soon—thank goodness! 🙌 So here’s the thing. I’ve been working at the local casino since then, and now I’m wondering about how to handle my exit. Do I really need to give a two-week notice, or could I just leave my work phone and make a run for it? 😂
I know this is a tricky situation for a lot of folks, so let’s chat about it! Here are some thoughts on why this can be such a dilemma:
-
Feeling torn: Leaving a job, even a temporary one, can bring out feelings of guilt or anxiety. After all, you formed some connections with coworkers. 🤔
-
Burning bridges: Skipping out without notice can potentially harm your professional reputation. You never know when you might cross paths with your current employer or coworkers in the future! 🚪
- Company policies: Many companies have specific policies regarding resignations. Not following them could create unnecessary hassle. 📋
I think a good solution is to consider giving your employer a proper two-week notice. Here’s why:
-
Professionalism: This approach keeps things respectful and classy! Leaving on good terms can open doors down the road. ✨
-
Final impressions count: Your last couple of weeks can showcase your professionalism—and who knows, they might need your help training someone else.
- Future references: A positive exit can increase your chances of getting a favorable reference later. 🎖️
So, what do you all think? Have you faced a similar situation before? How did you handle it? I’d love to hear about your experiences or any tips you have for making this transition smoother. Let’s discuss! 💬
Congratulations 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I’d just give them some sort of notice.
Would the job you’re leaving requires lots of training of another?
Give notice.
Every employer appreciates a reasonable notice period, and if a new hire says that they are already employed but can start tomorrow, it raises a legitimate question about how that individual will treat our company when it is time for them to leave our employment. Unless there is something strange going on, like you are being forced to do something illegal or highly unethical, do the decent thing and give proper notice.
