Should I Stay or Leave My Current Company for a Higher Salary Opportunity?
#CareerChoices #JobOffer #SalaryNegotiation
Have you ever been faced with a tough decision regarding your career? Let me share a recent experience where a colleague’s resignation led to some unexpected revelations at my workplace.
Situation Overview:
– A colleague resigns for a higher salary offer at another company
– Manager hints at potential layoff, but later assures job security and offers a raise
– Recruiter from colleague’s new company contacts me for an interview with a 15k higher salary offer
Decision Dilemma:
– New job offer vs. potential raise at current company
– Should I leverage the new opportunity to negotiate for more money?
– Anticipated start date aligns with colleague’s exit
Conclusion:
While I lean towards accepting the new job offer, I am curious to hear your thoughts. What would you do in this situation? #CareerDecisions #NewJobVsRaise
Accept the offer from the other. Your boss is doing a typical move of hold the forces till replacement arrive. They don’t want you to leave which typically happens when one old employee leaves. Just be polite when you do and don’t burn any bridges.
Your current manager showed their cards. They’re going to either can you now or later. It’s hard to change people’s perception of you. In this IT job market you don’t want to be out of a job. If the new role is stable 100% take it. Id take it even if it was a small pay cut.
> After interviewing with the new company, they offered me the job and the salary is 15k higher than what I currently make. I have until Monday to accept the offer.
Leave.
Slam dunk decision just to take the offer without a second thought.
The 5k is short term. They will find a replacement for your coworker pay them more and kick you to the curb. Take the new job.
Well, you have a target on your back at your current job. Coworker leaving just threw a wrench in management plans to get rid of you. 15k extra salary and fresh start at a new place is a brainer here.
Move out.
Make like a tree.
So far the decision is pretty unanimous. I’ll definitely be accepting the offer and moving out.
I will add that I was on the chopping block simply due to being the new guy on the block with the least amount of experience. It has nothing to do with any adverse actions or problems. The other members on the team have significantly more experience than I do so it would have been a no brainer for me to go if it were to be anyone. Regardless, the prospect of potentially being unemployed a few months from now is not in mine or anyone’s plans. New job is stable and I’ll be handing in my notice.
I would leave immediately, the situation is way too weird to really plan with for the future.
Run. They gave you time to find something else. Now it’s to your benefit.
Take this opportunity. Your manager made your status within his mind known to you. Who knows what the landscape within your company will look like a year or two down the line.
This reads like a slam dunk opportunity to get the frick out of dodge
You are in an amazing position, alot of folks don’t get this.
I’m glad you’re moving on to a different company. Not only will you have a nice pay increase, you’ll hopefully be appreciated more.
Ask the person who went first about the experience. If positive, then bounce.
Might as well jump to the new company.
And on your way out – exit interview or whatever, can let manager or whomever know, “Yeah, should’ve been compensating me at my market worth, then I may not have been so excited to jump to much better opportunity compensating me at my market worth.”
