Hey everyone,
I could really use some advice on my certification path. I recently lost my job as a tier 2 technician and now I’m focusing on getting certified to boost my career in cloud engineering. Here’s my plan so far:
1. Currently studying for A+ and AZ-900
2. Looking to gain more experience in infrastructure support roles
3. Eventually aiming for more advanced Azure and cloud certs
But here’s where I’m stuck – is it worth pursuing the A+ certification given my experience, or should I jump straight into more advanced certifications? Any recommendations on other cert paths I should consider?
Here’s my two cents – I think having the A+ certification could still be beneficial, especially as a solid foundation for your future cloud engineering career. It never hurts to have a well-rounded skill set 😊
What do you all think? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Don’t waste your time on A+, you can easily just lie on your resume and say you have it if you want to, no one’s going to waste time checking something so remedial and insignificant. Azure and AWS are very inflexible and expensive. Most smaller / midsize companies just use a hosting provider and their cloud is just VMWare on another persons compute. By all means get your Azure and AWS certs, learn about object storage and Kubernetes, but you should really focus on understanding VMWare, IMO, to get your foot in the door.
I spent 12 years at a Fortune 500 who ran VMWare, then their ‘cloud’ was literally just going to a hosting provider where appropriate, for scaling, then I worked at two different hosting providers so I have a bias more narrow perspective. I welcome any disagreements as long as they are respectful and intelligent counter statements.
