Has anyone else ever had as tough of a time landing a job as I am right now? I’ve been on the job search grind for almost 7 months, and let me tell you, it’s been rough. I thought I had a job lined up recently, but turns out the employer didn’t bother checking if I had the right certifications. Now I’m stuck in limbo, trying to get certified while not getting paid.
I’ve sent out over 500 applications since December, had a handful of interviews, but most of the time I get radio silence. Can’t even snag a gig in retail. It’s getting to the point where I feel like I’m failing everyone around me, especially with a little one to take care of and my significant other picking up the financial slack.
I know I’m a fantastic interviewee with tons of experience, yet I keep getting rejected. One job even reposted their listing 10+ times after turning me down. Talk about a confidence killer.
I shared this to not only vent some frustration but also to connect with others who are in the same boat. It’s tough out there, but we’re all in this together. Keep pushing forward, keep applying, and who knows, maybe our luck will turn around soon. Let’s keep each other motivated! 💪🏽 #NeverGiveUp
Now, tell me, has anyone else been experiencing job search woes like this? I’d love to hear your stories and thoughts! 😊👩🏽💼🤔
You and everyone else. 500 is nothing I have sent out thousands since October and can’t get any job as people say oh retail and fast food always hire. Got rejected from target multiple times.
how long to get the cert and the cost?
I have advanced degrees in Finance, passed the CFA exams, and have worked for years in my field, yet I was rejected by Waste Management for basic financial analyst roles! I can’t even get an interview at a garbage company, LOL. But I’ve been trained by global Wall Street firms, so this market is just horrible. It’s not you—everyone I know is out of work, or was just laid off, or is struggling like crazy to land a high-paying corporate role.
Check with your local American Job Center to pay for the certification. If you have actual proof that the certification is required, it should be free for you.
I feel you especially lately. I got hired in July, stayed at a incredibly disorganized company until I got a new offer in January which ended up being a complete bait and switch that I walked out of.
In 4 months I’ve gotten 3 interviews. The longest I had ever been unemployed before this was 3 weeks. I got cocky with the success I had in January and thought it would be easy.
I am about 6 months in now looking for work. The last time I was looking for a job in 2018, it took me about 2-3 months for me to find a position but I definitely had interviews lined up at least 2 per week during the hunt. Now I will be lucky to get back a rejection letter a month later.
It’s just awful.
Lots of people are right where you are. If you look through my history. Again, 18 years as an HR Director. I haven’t had a job since Oct 2023. I have put in way more than 500 resumes across the country. Remote, hybrid, on-site, apply online, offline, easy apply, 30 min on-site applications. This new job market sucks ass. The traditional career is dead. The dream is over. Everyone who is doing better than me can bite it.
Right? A few years ago, I could leave a job and then get hired somewhere else within a couple weeks. This shit is nuts.
At the moment I can’t even get temp work. My plan after redundancy was to chill then temp until I get a perm job again, or a temp to perm job. Had a few interviews but been passed on. Frustrating, I’ll do annoying temp for the time being but for love of God having to interview even for those is annoying.
My mental state has plummeted to an all time low just applying for jobs
