#ComputerTips #ProductivityHacks
Hey everyone! 👋 Who else struggles with staying in front of their computer for long periods of time? I know I do! But fear not, I’ve got some tips that might help us all out:
– Make sure your workspace is ergonomic and comfortable 💺
– Take regular breaks to stretch and move around 🚶♂️
– Stay hydrated and snack on healthy foods 🍎
– Use the Pomodoro technique to break up work into manageable chunks 🍅
– Consider investing in a standing desk or an adjustable chair to change up your position 💡
What are your tips for staying focused and comfortable while working on your computer for extended periods of time? Let’s help each other out! 💻 #ComputerTips #StayFocused
Use Leechblock and use a timer.
Personally I track how much time I program so that I remain consistent.
Schedule breaks regularly.
Laptop wont solve that issue. For body ache take a good chair. For attention issues try to remove distractions. Try to work in short batches with focussed attention.
I wish I had this problem 🥲 I still remember a day off where I spent 16 hours straight playing Total War: Warhammer…
Get a comfortable chair, a few snacks or a drink, and find some relaxing background music to enjoy if you need stimulation. If possible, place your computer where you can look out a window, bonus points if you can leave it open to let some fresh air in. Make the temperature comfortable. Keep things nearby that you like to play with, I keep a few of my guns near my computer that I like to load, unload, disassemble and reassemble, etc. when I’m bored doing schoolwork. If you have a pet, find a way to make them wanna hang out near you so you can pet them occasionally. Oh, and find yourself a keyboard, mouse, and headset (if you wear one) that are comfortable to hold for long periods of time. Mouse pads with huge anime titties on them exist for a reason 😂😂
Since I’m going to the gym every two days my back is much stronger and I don’t get any pain anywhere even after sitting for many hours. I’m working for 8h/day and then I spend 4-5h more on personal projects. You can’t do much about boredom. If coding is not your passion you will have hard time in the field.
Don’t. It’s not productive long term.
You don’t. We get work training videos to tell us to take breaks, get up and stretch, a coffee or whatever.
A laptop would make things worse. You ought to Google up ergonomics of using a computer. Adjusting your seating, monitor height, posture etc.
It is neither productive nor healthy to stay in front of the computer for long stints. Take a short 10 minute break every hour or so. At most two. Take a lunch break as well.
Take ergonomics seriously. If you are starting to feel any aching or pain, then please take my advice and do something now before it gets worse.
A laptop is probably not better, as it encourages you to have poor posture, leaning over it to look at the screen.
Get a comfortable chair which encourages you to sit up straight, put your monitor at a comfortable height, and take regular breaks.
Senior programmer with 7 years experience. Don’t do that. I take breaks every hour for a couple minutes and a longer break every four hours.
Coffee + 100mg modafinil
You won’t get off the desk for the next 10 hours.
Sometimes it can keep you glued for up to 16 hours.
Have breaks and stretch.
Get a comfortable chair. Use pomodoro timer.
You can treat one room as your office. In the office – you work, anywhere else – you rest. Another approach is buying a loptop and going around the house with it, working at office, kitchen or laying on your bed. I switch them occasionally. This is also a good reason to buy a laptop, but I only have laptop, so it’s up to you.
Take breaks, get a standing desk. People have been getting these treadmills for tables lol.
Take proper lunch breaks as well
Bro never played runescape
Good. You shouldnt stay on your pc for hours, every hour take a break, do pushups, go make coffee, eat, chat w colleagues or friends on the phone if ure at home, if youve been on the pc for many hours then go for a 30 min walk and dont think about code at all
unpopular opinion: probably the most important quality of a good programmer is the ability/patience/focus to just sit in front of a screen for a long time (regardless of chairs etc). This is how you learn and think and learn some more
Better chairs, keyboards, peripherals, etc will absolutely be important for keeping you healthy for those long hrs, but won’t help you WANT to spend the time required to do the work
This isn’t really advice, but more an observation of the facts
Practice. I’ve been doing it for more than 30 years, so it comes really easy to me.
[Pomodoro Technique](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique). (It’s how [this kid](https://www.youtube.com/live/GpGpX8I7kHs?si=1UlRIPQz6TBObYW-) studies for long periods of time.)
*The original technique has six steps:*
1. *Decide on the task to be done.*
2. *Set the Pomodoro timer (typically for 25 minutes).*
3. *Work on the task.*
4. *End work when the timer rings and take a short break (typically 5–10 minutes).*
5. *Go back to Step 2 and repeat until you complete four pomodoros.*
6. *After four pomodoros are done, take a long break (typically 20 to 30 minutes) instead of a short break. Once the long break is finished, return to step 2.*
The best advice i can give is dont, its completely okay to take a 15 minute break every hour to just go on a walk or get some food or anything othwr than sitting
Well adjusted monitor height, big screens, a chair with good back support and a standing desk + 5-10 min breaks every hour
Very few people can straight up writing code for more then 4-5 hours per day every day. Regular breaks is a necessity.
My guess is like everyone said, take breaks in between. Even machines need breaks to function well at some point.
For the body ache try adjusting your setup to suite the “correct posture”. It could be your table might be too high or your chair isn’t comfy or your screen isn’t set properly.
Have you wondered what’s the cause of the boredom? What are you working on that’s making you bored🤔. That also can affect your productivity. Make it fun for yourself
Maybe look into pomodoro technique? Every 25 minutes take a 5 minute break, during that break you can do a bit of streching for the body ache.
Get a more comfortable seat, remove distractions, working in a different room might also help, i personally find it easier to focus when i’m not working at home, but just some place like mcdonalds with free wifi
5-10 min. screen-break is adviced at least every 1 1/2 hour. Doesn’t need to be a regular break, but fetching coffee, going to the toilet, fetching from the printer etc. Point is you leave the computer and clear your mind.
Table and chair must be adjustable for good working environment. Alternate between sitting and standing while you code. Take a short walk during the lunch break.
This will relieve aches and mental stress – while increasing your performance – the latter being important if your supervisor questions your changed work patterns. Quality isn’t measured in amount of screen time.
I have this program called stretchly, every 20 mins it pauses my screen and gives a stretching drill for 20 seconds. I use it to look away and maintain my eyesight, but doing the drills is very useful too and you can customize the intervals
Ergonomic chair, table height, good keyboard and mouse what fit your hand, just exercise daily, and you will adjust eventually, as it s normal your body to fatigue in unfamiliar positions.
Standing desks help me. Would be nice if my office got me one for when im at work though. Bet they wonder why im aways going remote.
