Hi folks! I know I post here frequently but I’m sharing a little bump on my process so far.
I am really passionate about IB but don’t have any relevant work experience unfortunately. I know the best advice is usually to get work experience, but it’s extremely difficult and I’ve sent hundreds of applications at this point. I sent e-mails to startups offering to work for free, and am taking CFA L1 in the summer. Before you say CFA is not relevant for IB, I am going for CFA in order to try and land a spot in our uni’s largest investment fund which the Big 5 typically recruit out of here in Calgary.
The only positive thing in the last month was me landing a portfolio manager role at one of our funds here which I’m extremely grateful for, and becoming an equity research analyst in another. I’m targeting the energy sector with as many extracurriculars as I can but the work experience hunt is BRUTAL!!!

Also, for whatever reason the resume font seems really light and hard to read. I’m not sure why.
Gpa too low
Literally anyone can say they’re a CFA Level 1 candidate, so take that off. Plus, it’s irrelevant to banking. Your reasoning for having it still doesn’t make sense with regard to banking; either be in or out of IB.
Transfer to Ivey
Please remove CFA level 1 candidate lol
What’s the point of asking for advice if you’re just arguing with everyone? Do you just want a pat on the back for a good resume?
I’d take off relevant coursework and CFA candidate. Bullet points look good with lots of quantification, I’d personally unbold them though. You have an inconsistent dash in your CFA exam date range.
Inconsistent hyphen sizes in the dates.
If you’re a CFA level 1 candidate, then I’m pre-med.
Recruiter here. Resume looks great. Only note I would unbold the statistics you put. It does catch the eye but unnecessary I would say as you have a clean resume so recruiters will read through it anyways
Why would you want to target an industry that has been laying off all its HQ staff constantly since 2015? Job losses in corporate Alberta O&G surprisingly accelerated, rather than slowed with more tax cuts from the gov’t here as well.
First two lines should be above the darker bold line.
Unbold the stats.
“A collective revenue” is grammatically incorrect. In fact maybe ditch the whole Web3 thing, it’s embarrassing.
Signed, former Calgarian.
Are you recruiting for summer 2025? I believe those seats are already filled in Calgary
Hey I was just wondering if you have any advice for a student entering UCalgary in the fall of 2024 majoring in Finance striving for IB?
The comments are tearing this man. Im not sure if I should feel bad or not
Were u by any chance in this year’s JDC west competition?
Targeting oil and gas in Alberta… good luck with that… Trudeau called, he wants his available job statistics back.
Not enough emphasis on Excel. Add in VBA as necessary.
Back to rig, boy!
Nobody cares about your interest dude
