I donāt think there is anything wrong asking for clarification on what your title is after the promotion. I do not work in the it space yet, but everywhere I worked if you were promoted the company gives you an offer letter. Any time I was promoted I had to sign an offer letter of my responsibilities, compensation, and my new title would be on there.
Easiest way to determine your pay range would be to go to Glassdoor.com and add your skills and location. Then check the reviews for company you work for. At least then youāll know if you should pursue this with your manager
Fine to ask for clarification around your roles since you have different titles.
Remember, previous experience and skills are how you get a job, they don’t make the job you have. Are your duties exactly the same? If so, the titles should be the same. And then you can use skills and experience to argue pay.
But your current title has jack to do with your previous experience or theirs.
As far as you can tell but not as far as the hiring manager could tellĀ
Maybe this person does have something in their background that matters.
Maybe the speed at which they’re growing caught leadership’s eye. (This is the most likely, if skills and duties are identical.)
Maybe this person is just better at kissing ass.
