#XmasBonus #HardWorkPaysOff #FairPay #MinimumWageStruggles 💸
My son’s Xmas bonus was $35 😔. I can’t help but feel disappointed, considering how hard he works. He puts in 20 hours a week, never misses a shift, and always steps in last minute when they need someone. It’s disheartening to see such a small bonus for his dedication and reliability.
In this article, we’ll delve into the issue of Xmas bonuses and minimum wage struggles, discussing why many employees receive low bonuses and what can be done about it.
## Understanding Xmas Bonuses and Minimum Wage Struggles
### The Reality of Xmas Bonuses
– Many companies offer Xmas bonuses as a way to show appreciation for their employees’ hard work throughout the year.
– However, the amount of the bonus can vary greatly depending on the company’s financial situation and their attitude towards employee rewards.
– While some employees receive generous bonuses, others may receive very little or even nothing at all.
### The Struggle of Minimum Wage
– Employees who work in minimum wage jobs often face financial challenges due to the low pay rates.
– It can be especially difficult during the holiday season when expenses are higher, and a small Xmas bonus can feel like a drop in the bucket.
## Why Some Employees Receive Low Bonuses
### Company Financial Situation
– Companies may be facing financial difficulties, leading them to offer smaller bonuses to employees.
– This can be particularly common in industries that have been impacted by economic downturns or other financial challenges.
### Attitude Toward Employee Rewards
– Some companies may undervalue the contributions of their employees and may not prioritize rewarding them with meaningful bonuses.
– This can be indicative of a toxic work culture and can lead to increased turnover and dissatisfaction among employees.
## What Can Be Done About It
### Advocating for Fair Pay
– Employees can collectively advocate for fair pay and better bonuses through unions or other organized efforts.
– By standing together, employees can make their voices heard and push for better treatment and rewards from their employers.
### Seeking Opportunities Elsewhere
– If a company consistently undervalues its employees, it may be time to consider seeking employment with an organization that prioritizes fair compensation and rewards for hard work.
– It’s important for employees to know their worth and seek out opportunities that align with their values and expectations.
### Pushing for Policy Change
– Advocacy for minimum wage reform and stronger regulations around employee compensation can also help address the issue of low Xmas bonuses and overall pay inequality.
In conclusion, it’s understandable to feel disappointed when a hard-working individual receives a paltry Xmas bonus. However, by understanding the reasons behind low bonuses and taking steps to advocate for fair pay, employees can work towards a more equitable and rewarding work environment. It’s important for individuals to know their worth and push for better treatment and compensation, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and rewarding career.
Wait till he works full time and gets nothing for Christmas from the company.
I’m a teacher. I’ve never gotten a bonus or gift of any sort (except from students).
I’d take $35. It’s way better than getting nothing. Which a lot of us get.
What are these Christmas bonuses you are referring to?
I got nothing…
Oh wait…I got a plant that I left in my car, and it died because I forgot it existed by the time I got home.🫠
Honestly – 35 for part time is pretty good
I’ve worked 50-60 hours a week for the last 20+ years and got a video wishing me happy holidays. That’s it. They also reduced our staff by three by end of this year. So more work for everyone in January.
Ho ho ho ☹️
I gave our babysitter $50 for Christmas. So, dang, I’m sorry
If it’s any consolation, I’m 37, been working since I was 14 and I’ve never gotten an Xmas bonus in my life.
We used to get a $25 gift card. It was reported on our check stubs for tax purposes
I got $25. And it’s bad that I’m thankful for that.
I was with an employer that gave a Christmas bonus. It was nice. First time I was able to get Christmas gifts without going in the hole, it wasn’t a crazy amount. It was like 600 or 700. But it made all the difference when Christmas shopping.
Then new CEO came on bored. Scrapped the holiday bonus and made a new system where you could get up to $200 a month bonus based on merit scores each month, while at the same time, they changed the metrics. Gotta move that goal post, just gotta try harder. I went from nearly 100s each month, missed one month at like a 95 the year before they changed the bonus requirements, To not meeting a single month of metrics under the new system.
But the schedule tracking system not working properly if at all and new quality audits and the window to dispute when you got points removed getting completely ignored by that department was all just a coincidence.
This, on top of doing the work of 4 people, and getting a run around on a promised promotion is why I left.
Job now doesn’t give a Christmas bonus. They also don’t dangle expectations that are rigged to not be met in front of my face, and they don’t work me like a horse.
They’re better.
Try working in a place that comes on the intercom to announce all sorts of sales records being smashed and literally say how much the company just made in a hour… and yet little to no bonuses for the actual laborers, only the c suite…
You get a bonus?
Most part time people don’t get a bonus. A lot of people used to get bonuses and no longer don’t. I used to and don’t. Some people are just happy to have a job after so many have been laid off. There are laid off people who have been looking for a job for months even a year plus living off savings or nothing. I would take the $35 bonus.
I used to work for a small business. The owners are millionaires and up until a few years ago gave out a $20 bill to everyone. My bonus for my first full year at my current job was over $5000. Pharmaceuticals suck but pay well.
I’ve never had a Christmas bonus. Didn’t even know that was a thing outside of the 1940’s films.
I have definitely worked for companies that had a bonus structure based on performance and gotten bonuses based on that. So to me, bonuses are performance-based, not free gifts. They are were always for full-time management as well.
At holidays, most companies will give you either nothing, or some kind of cheap food-related gift (Starbucks gift card, pizza party, candy). I wonder how much you believe a part-time worker should be entitled to as a gift and how you would calculate that? Tbh I have never heard of a part-timer getting any kind of cash gift. Not to say they shouldn’t, but rather how is it decided how much is fair and reasonable to expect?
Yeah in line with your update Xmas bonuses just aren’t even really a thing anymore so $35 is decent. We…had a pizza party…lol
Edit: I will admit at least it was top end pizza from an expensive place and it was funny watching the big boss personally serve everyone and end up splattered in sauce somehow.
A place I used to work at gives everybody a grocery store gift card and amounts depend on how much you work and how long with the max being $50. People I think appreciate it overall.
My current work gives everyone a free turkey to take home every year
College educated, working in my career, full time.. I’ve only got somewhere between $0-$50 every year lol
Be thrilled. I got 4 slices of cold pizza and two beers.. that wasn’t even paid for by the company.
Welcome to the real world. Then companies wonder why employees don’t stay.
He got more than I did, and I work FT. And since I’m exempt, that means I’m often working more than 40 hours a week.
But, yeah. Welcome to the working world.
I’m 54 years old and work in property management. I’ve never gotten a cash xmas bonus.
The best I’ve gotten was a $25 Kroger gift card (I worked at Kroger).
So he works freaking part time and they just gave him 35 bucks for nothing? Lucky duck.
Are Christmas bonuses supposed to be a thing? I’m just glad to have the day off .
Fortune 100 company, 7 years employed, record sales this year. No bonus.
I work 50 hours a week and I got a $25 visa gift card. Is your son’s job hiring?
You guys are getting bonuses?
One year about a decade ago we got a $100 visa gift card and I’ve been living that high ever since.
I am very appreciative of anything but understand that I give them what they pay for. The pay me for what I do. Gifts are gifts.
I work for the government so I’m literally not allowed to get a bonus lol.
Yea tbh I’m surprised he got anything at all as it looks like he’s part time. Good job on him and you though as it sounds like he has a great work ethic. He’ll go far at the right company
My Christmas bonus is losing 16 paid hours from my paycheck that week.
I get nothing.
Many companies simply don’t give out Christmas bonuses. Count yourself lucky to get anything at all.
The company I work for is quite corporate so the only bonuses go to management / sales.
Worked for a billion dollar Fortune 500 company for 5 years and never saw a DIME for Christmas.
It’s part time. I have a salaried job, another job, and a part time job totaling around $88000. My Xmas bonus was $0
He could’ve got nothing considering he is part time.
My Christmas bonus was a mug. I would’ve preferred the $30 the mug cost.
Better than $0, typical of folks looking to complain. I got $0 so…
