#JobOfferMixUp [TX] – Can you believe it? I was offered a job by mistake to the wrong person! 🤦♂️ Here’s the tea ☕️: I applied for a position at my current company, went through interviews, got a rejection email, and then found out they never contacted the right person to offer me the job. 🤨 It’s been a rollercoaster ride trying to fix this mess, but no luck so far. 🎢

It sounds like “correcting their mistake” means they have to go to someone else outside the company and say “nevermind, you don’t get a job”. If you weigh telling a brand new employee “oops nevermind no job for you” against telling an internal employee who already has a job “oops you have to stay in your role”…….well, the first option sounds worse to me. I can see why they are stalling.
Obviously someone screwed up. But, if you force accountability here that might not work out well for you in the end. If you like this company and want to stay, then my suggestion is to just move on an apply for a different role. If you already got offered a role on another team once, you’ll get moved to the role you want eventually. If you force this and you make a big stink, it’s not likely your HR team will be interested in helping you. If you approach it from a perspective of “I get that mistakes happen, how can we move forward and help me move into a different role” that might be better. Your management team knows about this and I’m sure HR knows about it. If you can be graceful and understanding, that probably will do more for your longevity with the company.
If the leaders for your team haven’t been able to “fix” the issue after a month, and they’re still hiring for the same role, you are highly likely NOT wanted on the other team and no one will fix this for you.
If you really want that next step you know what you have to do, leave.
>I was sent a rejection email after the 2nd interview.
…. And their response was that they had contacted my leader to offer me the position, but were told that I was unable to be released from my current position
Is it possible that it wasn’t the rejection that was incorrect but rather the feedback response?
In the end, mistakes happen…. Not sure who “they” are — was this someone on the hiring team, in HR, etc?
Depending on who has “asked” these awkward questions (if it was you), they may now not want you…even if they state “the leaders” are working with you. If they have other open positions, and there is no progress and they’ve been unresponsive, you have to read the tea leaves here.
That siad, I have to wonder if your leader is lying to you.
they say they spoke with your leaders. your leaders say they didn’t get contacted. i’d ask my leaders to reach out directly to them since they seem to still be hiring.
