I have gotten every job I’ve ever had, except for two, through friends, colleagues or ex-coworkers.
One of the things that I’ve noticed in the last 12 months of posts about how tough the market has become is that it doesn’t seem like many people are leveraging their social network, or worse, no longer have any social networks to leverage.
I keep seeing post after post about how people are “private” at work, just want to “do the job and go home” … they seem to run away from or wholly dismiss the benefit of the social aspects of the workplace.
Which is well and good when you have a job … But it cuts your options and avenues *significantly* when you don’t have those relationships to fall back on, after you’ve left an employer.
Humans are social creatures and business is a social endeavor. If you choose NOT to be social, your trajectory is going to be stunted.
I’ve been out of a Poli Sci degree for 3 years…and came in 2nd place for a legislative aide position. Stuck as pharmacy tech, and aiming for federal contract analysis/regulatory compliance positions. Just lost.
Glad things are working out for you.
Congrats OP!!
Been there done that, if there’s any micromanaging I tell them to go find another designer nowadays. Want good design/edits, you’re gonna need to trust your employee, or at the least, accept that good designs take *time* to create.
Now work in an office with no tracking software/cameras and the most chill boss I’ve had in awhile, because also eff that noise. Have fun in your new role!
