#HomeInsurance #InsuranceClaimDenied #HouseDamage #RepairOptions
Hey everyone, I recently found myself in a tough situation with my home insurance claim being mostly denied after discovering damage to my house wall. I’ve been quoted anywhere from 27k to 60k for repairs, but the insurance company will only cover 6k for the frame. 😞
Here are some possible solutions I’m considering, and I’d love to hear your thoughts or any other ideas you might have:
– Look into companies that offer home improvement loans specifically for situations like this
– Research local grants or assistance programs for homeowners in need of repair help
– Consider reaching out to contractors or repair specialists who may work with you on payment options
I know how frustrating and overwhelming dealing with insurance claims can be, but I believe there are always options out there if we’re willing to explore them. Let’s help each other out and share any advice or resources we have! 🏠💡
Isn’t it insane we pay insurance for years & then when we actually need them there’s a chance they won’t be helpful. I often wonder if it would be better to just put my insurance payments into savings.
You can dispute the outcome with your insurer & fight & escalate. Unlikely to go anywhere though unless there is a slip up on their end.
If I were in this position i would probably approach my bank for a personal loan.
Did you get title insurance when you purchased? It gets mixed reviews but dodgy renovations by previous owners is meant to be one of the things it covers.
U need to check your policy on why they actually failed it.
Dare say its they won’t cover non approved council additions which is fair.
You need to check your paperwork from when you bought it. But it’s generally on you to do your due diligence.
Anything dodgey should of been accounted for or get grandfathered in.
Check what council has on file.
What is the actual cause of the water ingress? Reading your post, my guess is that the incorrectly sloped concrete has caused water to get in and rotted the timber frames? If that’s the case, the insurer is correct and they won’t pay for shoddy work or improvements to your property.
You should seek further advice on this and not accept the insurance payout until you do. Quite often insurance companies will do anything possible to get out of claims. They will rely on “exclusions” that aren’t even valid under the insurance act.
You may be able to go through an insurance broker, but more likely a lawyer who specialises in insurance claims.
Best of luck!
Non approved additions are on you to uncover at the due diligence stage before buying the house
Same as any DIY wiring or patch jobs.
This is yours alone unfortunately.
Surprised the insurance even came to the party tbh
I used my original building and pest report to refute some of the insurance findings – obviously not the same kind of issue, but the assessor works for the insurance company – so they have a high level of bias.
I’ll dig out the building inspection from when we purchased. Maybe that will help. We paid for the top inspector in our area and nothing was identified.
Did you get a building and pest inspection prior to purchase.
This should have been uncovered then, you may have a claim against them for negligence in not uncovering the dodgy work.
